McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union to Bring Teacher Attention to Issue of Student Debt and Provide Tips on How to Manage College Costs Through Nov. 30 Seminar
EAST WINDSOR, N.J., Nov. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's high school teachers know that it is important to teach their students what they need to know in order to perform well academically in college – but with college graduates averaging about $24,000 in debt upon graduation, it has become important to also teach high school students what they need to know in order to limit college costs.
To that end, the McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union is offering a free seminar titled "How to Apply for Student Loans and Educational Grants" on Wednesday, Nov. 30, between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the credit union offices located at 120 Windsor Center Drive in East Windsor. The seminar is free to public and private school educators, and covers material that earns educators professional development credits toward 9.2 Financial Literacy Standards. A Professional Development Certificate will be provided at the conclusion of the seminar.
The seminar will be presented by Ken O'Connor, Director of Student Advocacy for Fynanz, Inc. He will speak to credit union members and local educators about a number of topics including:
- Techniques to help your students apply for student loans and educational grants
- Methods to guide your students through the financial aid process, including how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- How to decide which financial aid option best suits your students' needs
- How to better align your student's secondary education choice with their career goals
"How to Apply for Student Loans and Educational Grants" is part of McGraw-Hill FCU's ongoing Financial Literacy Series program, which began as a way to provide educational resources to New Jersey school teachers, and was recently expanded to include the credit union's membership and their families. Seminars are developed in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education.
