MassMutual's Elaine Sarsynski Takes to the Airwaves To Drive Awareness of Retirement Challenges for American Workers
Concerns About Keeping Up With Monthly Expenses Greater Among Women
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elaine Sarsynski, executive vice president of MassMutual's Retirement Services Division and chairman and CEO of MassMutual International LLC, recently participated in a series of radio interviews to help drive awareness of challenges facing Americans as they plan and save for retirement. The interviews are also helping bring heightened awareness to specific concerns facing women.

Ms. Sarsynski discussed the findings of a nationwide survey sponsored by MassMutual Retirement Services and conducted by Brightwork Partners. The survey revealed that, among American workers, saving enough for retirement is the biggest financial worry for both men and women, but women are far more concerned about just keeping up with monthly expenses. In fact, more than twice as many women are concerned about monthly expenses than saving enough for retirement (31% for women vs. 13% for men).
"This survey clearly demonstrates that retirement is a top-of-mind concern among all Americans – and the need for financial advisors and retirement plan providers like MassMutual to help them focus on achieving adequate replacement income in retirement has never been greater," says Sarsynski. Over the next few weeks, content from these interviews will be posted on various MassMutual websites and social media outlets such as the company's Facebook page.
Overall, the radio tour included 13 airings reaching more than 2.6 million listeners in 11 nationwide markets, including CBS Radio (Daybreak USA, national broadcast).

"We are trying to change the conversation to one that's more about monthly income and what it will take for an individual saver to reach a sufficient level to sustain them in retirement. Financial advisors have a critical role in this discussion, as do retirement plan providers like MassMutual," adds Sarsynski.
MassMutual's participant website, www.retiresmart.com, features the RetireSmart(SM) Ready tool that helps participants calculate and adjust their savings levels to evaluate where they stand in accomplishing this goal. MassMutual also offers a PlanSmart(SM) Analysis report that helps retirement plan sponsors evaluate this measure at the plan level.
