WILSONVILLE, Ore., Nov. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced that Dr. Marta Rencz, the MicReD® product line research and development director for the company's Mechanical Analysis Division, has received the Allan Kraus Thermal Management Medal. Established in 2009 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in electronic systems thermal management and commitment to the field of thermal science and engineering.
Dr. Rencz, professor, deputy head of the Electron Devices Department at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, received the medal based on her contributions to the scientific and academic world of thermal transient testing. The Allan Kraus Thermal Management Medal was presented to Dr. Rencz at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Houston, Texas on November 16, 2015. She is the first female recipient of this prestigious medal.
"Dr. Rencz has received the Allan Kraus Thermal Management Medal based on her impressive body of work in the thermal test, characterization, and analysis of semiconductor devices and packages, as well as her extraordinary success as a business and technology leader," stated Avram Bar-Cohen, chair, Kraus Medal Committee, ASME. "She is highly regarded worldwide as an expert in thermal metrology and today we are delighted to recognize her extensive and innovative contributions to the electronic industry."
Dr. Rencz was a co-founder of the MicReD (Microelectronics Research and Development) group based in Budapest, Hungary – a spin-off company established by research scientists from the Department of Electron Devices, Budapest University of Technology and Economics that later became a division of Flomerics Ltd —which Mentor Graphics Corporation acquired in 2008. Dr. Rencz was involved in the design and development of the Mentor® T3Ster® product. The T3Ster product is the industry leading advanced thermal tester for thermal characterization of semiconductor device packages. She holds three doctorate degrees including a Ph.D. in microelectronics from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, a Doctor of Science degree from the Hungarian Academy of Science, Hungary's most important and prestigious academic institution, and an honorary doctorate from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia's leading academic institution for engineering and business. Dr. Rencz holds other honors including the 2006 IEEE Transactions on Components and Packaging Technologies (CPT) Best Paper Award, the 2001 Harvey Rosten Award for Excellence in the field of thermal analysis, and the 2001 DATE design contest award for the best operating research-oriented IC design.
"We are extremely proud of Marta's achievements and the recognition of her extensive and ongoing contributions to the field of thermal management," stated Roland Feldhinkel, general manager of Mentor Graphics Mechanical Analysis Division. "Her impact on the industry and to Mentor Graphics is of great importance, and the Allan Kraus Thermal Management Medal is further validation of Marta's scientific expertise."
