Retailer Identifies What Women Want for Spring
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., March 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A new Marshalls survey found that an overwhelming majority (82 percent) of American women plan to refresh their wardrobes and homes for spring and they're shopping for new items to do so all season long. Today, Marshalls revealed surprising finds about how American women are planning to shop fashion, beauty and home décor for spring.
More than half (65 percent) of spring trend seekers admitted to constantly being on the lookout for ways to add an on-trend touch of spring. She's taking cues from the warmer weather and looking for items to help her transition to lighter looks, add new colors and products to her makeup bag and infuse her home with décor updates.
Whether seeking the season's hottest trends like bright colors and tropical touches or opting to embrace classic spring looks like feminine details and florals, Marshalls is the destination to refresh a home and wardrobe, at prices that thrill, making it easy to shop throughout the season.

- Lightweight jackets (57 percent) and daytime dresses (52 percent) as must-have transitional items for sunnier days
- Sixty-one percent say open-toed shoes are the leading item they associate with spring style.
- One in five say that seasonal trends make her closet "spring ready" with pieces that boast feminine florals or bright colors. Marshalls tip: incorporate top trending colors like mauve, lilac and blue along with pops of Kelly green and pink.
Refresh at Home
Homes will also be spring-ready, as 88 percent of women say they'll be on the lookout for new décor to welcome the season. More than one in three gravitate towards crisp, minimalist looks over traditional pastels or floral patterns. Other popular home décor trends include:
- Thirty percent want to create a country-inspired look, listing farmhouse chic with rustic colors or beautifully carved wood as a main inspiration. Marshalls tip: bring industrial farmhouse trends home by incorporating lighter washed woods with galvanized metal accents.
- Twenty-nine percent shop for items like candles and diffusers to bring spring's fresh floral scents indoors.
- One in four seek home basics such as throws, pillows or bedding to match their favorite décor. Those looking to add an on-trend pop of color might opt for tropical-inspired accents.
Makeup Must Haves
Her closet and home aren't the only areas getting a warm weather makeover. On average, two-thirds (66 percent) of women plan to perk up their makeup or beauty routine with spring-ready products. Spring beauty must-haves include:
- More than two in five women (47 percent) place tinted moisturizer with SPF at the top of their beauty lists, followed by neutral palettes (46 percent) and bronzer (30 percent), proving that when it comes to spring essentials, glowing skin is in and the natural look reigns supreme.
- Forty-one percent of younger millennials (age 25-29) are eager to incorporate fun pops of color into their look, indicating bright lipstick as a spring essential.

The Marshalls survey was conducted by Wakefield Research among 1,000 nationally representative women ages 25-52 who have shopped retail in the last year but are not industry-affiliated, between February 20 and February 26, 2018.
