Manitoba NetSet Chooses Tellabs for 4G
Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform to optimize network performance
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Manitoba NetSet will use Tellabs to provide 4G wireless broadband to rural Canadians throughout the province of Manitoba. By the end of the year, over 500 Manitoba communities and municipalities will benefit from the Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform. The platform, acting as the packet core in the network, will manage subscriber IP traffic, and help with increased content and capacity needs through smart analytics and traffic management.
The platform's intelligence and flexibility will provide Manitoba NetSet's residential and commercial users with an optimized 4G wireless network. Initially, Tellabs and Manitoba NetSet will base the 4G wireless network on WiMAX. When LTE standards become available in Canada, the network can be software-upgraded to LTE.
"The first of its kind in the province, our 4G wireless broadband network will give unserved or underserved rural users access to a high-speed network that is positioned for LTE," said Dean Hardy, chief technology officer at Manitoba NetSet. "The Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform will enable us to gain visibility into the network, to differentiate and personalize services for a higher-quality user experience."
The network will use Tellabs' technology to consolidate network services and create a flexible, open network architecture. Tellabs Professional Services is working with Manitoba NetSet to architect and implement the network to provide urban-quality experiences to its users. Through advanced analytics and monetization tools, the Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform will help Manitoba NetSet reduce capital and operating expenses and maximize its investment for the future.
"In a world increasingly dependent on global communications, users need smart, reliable and affordable wireless networks," said Chuck Bernstein, vice president, North America sales for Tellabs. "Tellabs' platform promotes an open ecosystem of vendors, network intelligence and flexibility to help providers deliver on network performance. We are excited to add Manitoba NetSet to our growing base of global Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform customers."
