Lumension Releases Endpoint Management and Security Suite v7.3
New platform features advanced persistent security protection against the notoriously sneaky RMI attacks
LONDON, April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Persistent Threats, APTs, rank as IT security chiefs' biggest headache in 2013 and growing in APT execution popularity are reflective memory injection attacks(RMI). Lumension®, a global leader in endpoint management and security, has announced it has improved its advanced persistent protection for enterprises with the release of Lumension® Endpoint Management and Security Suite, L.E.M.S.S. v 7.3 which includes protection for these notoriously difficult RMI attacks.
Within Lumension® Application Control on L.E.M.S.S., advanced protection against memory-based attacks has been integrated as a result of the late-2012 acquisition of CoreTrace Bouncer. This new capability will protect against sophisticated RMI attacks that are frequently used in the weaponised payloads and attacks that have become more mainstream in today's IT environment. In fact, more than 7,000 memory-based vulnerabilities have been reported in the last 25 years, making them one of the most commonly used APT attack vector.
"As cybercriminals increasingly steal sensitive information and wreak havoc on energy companies, government agencies and critical infrastructure with targeted APTs, the security industry must evolve its approach in how it equips IT security professionals in the fight against these organised threats," said Alan Bentley, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Lumension. "Lumension has made a number of significant improvements to the L.E.M.S.S. platform in an effort to address this shift and lead the industry in stepping beyond traditional signature-based defenses as a stand-alone endpoint security defense."
Unifying the functions of IT security and operations through a single console, single agent architecture, L.E.M.S.S. delivers best-in-class, modular licensed capabilities across patch management, anti-virus, configuration management, power management, application control, device control and asset management. In addition to application control, new L.E.M.S.S. v7.3 capabilities have also been added to patch and remediation, antivirus and device control.
Lumension is also demonstrating an early preview of new mobile device management (MDM) functionality available on L.E.M.S.S. during the 2nd half of 2013. MDM features include enforced password, remote device lock, disablement of device camera functionality, disablement of non-approved application installation and disablement of back-up to non-approved cloud storage providers. With the integration of MDM, L.E.M.S.S. enables today's enterprise to support Bring Your Own Device (B.Y.O.D.) initiatives while providing IT with a means to ensure more effective, efficient device management and policy enforcement across mobile endpoints.
L.E.M.S.S. v7.3 also delivers enhancements to its Patch and Remediation Module. The module will now have 100 percent parity with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) for both security and non-security patching. As such, Lumension customers have the capability to patch all operating systems and third party applications from the single L.E.M.S.S console.
Lumension Antivirus capabilities have expanded to include a delayed distribution of new AV definitions across endpoints, group testing and an auto-restore for corrected false positive definitions.
Lastly, new functionality has been added to Lumension Device Control. Lumension Device Control customers will now have the capability to encrypt a USB device on a PC and unencrypt, read and write onto that USB device from a Mac. This is a key capability for employees who want to work cross platform with PC-based files created in the office and on their home based Macs.
