Los Angeles Film School Partners With Groundbreaking Music Licensing Platform Xhail
Students Get Access To Affordable, Cutting-Edge Software To Score Film Projects And Create Bespoke Compositions In Hours Instead Of Days
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Film School is entering into a partnership – the first of its kind – with breakthrough Irish technology startup Xhail, currently in beta, to give students access to an affordable, innovative software for scoring their student film projects. The strategic and industry-pioneering partnership will give students low-cost entry to the groundbreaking, entirely cloud-based platform while also providing Xhail a means to test its software in preparation for the product's upcoming launch. This is the first global partnership between Xhail and an educational institution to date.
In the past, filmmakers had to either hire a composer or search through the thousands of tracks available in a music library to score their work. Xhail's cloud-based and user-friendly software will offer the industry another choice. Xhail is comprised of customizable, musician-composed tracks that can be easily and uniquely tailored to each project. Each track is composed of multiple musician-created instrumental elements, such as guitar or drums. Users can swap, alter or eliminate each instrumental element as they see fit for each project.
The nature of the software is sculpted around musical creativity. For every 1,000 musical instrument performances that share a related harmonic structure, more than 50,000 unique music cues can be generated by the Xhail software. With 10,000 instrument performances being placed into the library data bank for Los Angeles Film School students to use, there are potentially millions of unique music combinations to be made.
Currently, the industry standard for composing music to picture is two minutes a day; a recently completed Xhail project scored a full-length feature in eight hours with 45 minutes of music. This software, the first of its kind, seeks to level the playing field for independent productions and students. The Xhail software has been used to score projects like the upcoming documentary "Rampage Legend Cam Zink's Life on the Edge" by filmmaker Ryan Cleek. This is the first time production music has ever been used to uniquely score a full-feature documentary.
"'Xhail is a game-changer' is what we continually hear from professionals within the industry," said Mick Kiely, CEO Xhail. "As disruptive as it is, Xhail is committed to work for the benefit of the music industry by creating new revenue streams for composers as well as b2b integrations. Our partnership with the Los Angeles Film School is a testament to this. What better way to test an industry-shaping software than to give it to students who are about to shape the industry themselves."
"The Los Angeles Film School is always looking to provide our students with the best tools to help them on their journey into storytelling," said Jason McDonald, Director of Education Operations, Los Angeles Film School. "The software created by Xhail is something completely new that our students are excited to experience. Incorporating cutting-edge products like Xhail into our curriculum is one of the many ways we help to prepare students for success in the industry."
