PROCEEDS FROM LIMITED-EDITION PURPLE BRACELET WILL SUPPORT ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE RESEARCH
NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lokai, a socially responsible lifestyle brand that represents the importance of finding balance and staying centered along life's journey, is honored to announce its strategic partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Committed to supporting the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to accelerate the global progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure, Lokai has created a limited-edition purple bracelet to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. The campaign officially kicks off on February 1st, and will run through February 29th.
This strategic partnership comes with special significance, as Steven Izen, the Founder and CEO of Lokai, was inspired to create Lokai after learning his grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Although deeply saddened by the news, Steven realized the importance of staying hopeful during life's lows, as well as humble through its highs—and from this concept, Lokai was born.
Lokai will donate $1 to the Alzheimer's Association for every purple Lokai sold, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $300,000. The limited-edition purple Lokai supports the Alzheimer's Association work to advance research. The Association has been involved in every major advancement in Alzheimer's and dementia research since the 1980s.
"This initiative is an extremely important part of our story and history, as it was the driving force for Lokai's creation," said Steven Izen, Founder and CEO of Lokai. "When I was 19 years old, I learned my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. This was a truly life-changing moment. My grandfather had always been deeply devoted to family and the importance of giving back to the community. We can think of no better way to celebrate his spirit than with the launch of the limited-edition purple Lokai, benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. Since his diagnosis, it's been my mission to make a substantial difference in the fight against Alzheimer's; never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to give $300,000 to a cause that means so much to me and my family."
Founded in 2013, Lokai has committed to donating 10% of its net profits to a variety of non-profit organizations. To further raise awareness for the Alzheimer's Association, Lokai encourages supporters to post Instagram photos wearing their purple Lokai to honor those affected by Alzheimer's by tagging @livelokai and @alzassociation, and by using the hashtags #livelokai and #fightformemories.
"The generous financial support from Lokai as well as the company's efforts to raise much needed awareness for the Alzheimer's cause is greatly appreciated," said Donna McCullough, Chief Development Officer. "More than 5 million Americans, just like Steven Izen's grandfather, face Alzheimer's disease every day and that number is expected to rise dramatically in the coming decades. The devastating impact on families, communities and our nation are why investments like Lokai's in research is critical to changing the trajectory of the disease, and in the meantime, the Alzheimer's Association will serve as the place for families to turn for care and support."
The limited-edition purple bracelets will officially be sold online at http://mylokai.com/shop/lokai-bracelet-purple.html for $18.
