Lockdown Lust: Lovehoney Survey Uncovers More Than Half (54%) of American Couples Have Become More Sexually Adventurous During the COVID-19 Crisis
Four out of ten respondents agree that lockdown has improved the quality of their sex life
The majority plan to continue with their adventures once the crisis ends
NEW YORK, June 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- American's lockdown sex secrets are revealed today with more than half (54%) of couples enjoying more adventurous love-making during the COVID-19 crisis, according to a new survey conducted by Lovehoney - the global sexual happiness brand. Nearly one-third (32%) report to be sexually happy during lockdown and the majority (76%) say they will continue with their adventures once the crisis ends.
Four out of ten (38%) respondents agree that lockdown has improved the quality of their sex life with 43% of couples reporting more frequent use of sex toys. Vibrators, dildos, couple's toys, male strokers, butt plugs and love rings for couples rank highest. Couples (36%) and singles (35%) are nearly equal when it comes to making a lockdown inspired sex toy purchase. Whether isolated together or separated due to social distancing, couples are also relying on sexting (89%) and virtual sex (48%) to keep the bedroom-fun going.
Demographics:
Young people's sex lives have been disrupted the most with those aged 18-34 experiencing a 14% decline in sexual activity while those age 35+ reported a 4% increase in activity. The decline is largely due to the fact that many couples under the age of 35 do not live together and cannot see each other under quarantine mandates.
Together or Apart:
Nearly one quarter (24%) have been unable to see their partners due to restrictions, resulting in intimacy challenges for 63% of couples.
For those couples still in the same household, sex is proving to be a great way to make lockdown more enjoyable, though 44% say they have to make love more quietly so as not to disturb housemates.
Regional Breakdown:
Potentially related to lockdown restriction disparities between different states, Californian's have had the biggest decrease in bedroom activity (-19%), while Floridians increased their activity by 14%. Pennsylvania (-15%), New York (-11%), Texas (-10&) and Illinois (-3%) also saw decreased activity.
Lockdown Stress:
Nine out of ten (90%) respondents agree that masturbation is a good way to relieve stress during lockdown. Almost half of respondents (45%) reported that they are masturbating more than usual during the lockdown
It's not all excitement and passion for everyone, as 32% cited heightened lockdown stress has led to more arguments with their partners. Further, of those isolating with a partner, 19% aren't having sex at all.

Inevitably, overall sexual activity has declined, because so many of us are obliged to live apart and cease physical contact, but many couples are sexting and enjoying video sex sessions through Facetime, Zoom and Skype to make separation more bearable."
