NEW YORK, March 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ListenFirst, the most comprehensive social analytics solution, today released a report on the State of Social for the Top 20 U.S. Hospitals, including a ranking of the Top 10 Hospitals by social engagement. The report documents the social media efforts of the U.S. News & World Report Top 20 U.S. Hospitals of 2017-18, and reflects a 7 percent increase in social engagement year over year driven by Instagram and Twitter, which grew by 53 percent and 42 percent, respectively.
Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic dominate the Top Ten, with Cleveland Clinic capturing 36 percent share of social engagement, just a few points ahead of Mayo Clinic at 34 percent. Despite a 12 percent year over year decline in total social engagement, Cleveland Clinic's Twitter and Instagram strategy earned it the No.1 spot, with engagement increasing by 50 percent for Twitter and 49 percent for Instagram. By contrast, Mayo Clinic's social engagement score grew by 35 percent, primarily driven by a 292 percent spike from Instagram.
The fastest growing hospitals were the University of Colorado Hospital at No.1, with a 112 percent increase in social engagement in 2017, followed by Jefferson Health with a 101 percent growth, and UCSF Medical Center with a 91 percent growth.

Other notable findings in the report include:
- Facebook engagement declined 60 percent from January to December 2017, despite a 17 percent increase in post volume and a 9 percent fan growth
- Social engagement from Twitter is nearing that from Facebook, lagging by only 5 percent, and is likely to surpass Facebook social engagement in 2018
- Instagram had the largest growth in fan footprint and social engagement at 117 percent and 89 percent respectively, but represents only 6 percent of total social engagement
