LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Nov. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeStraw® water filters make ideal holiday gifts and stocking stuffers for outdoor enthusiasts, international travelers and emergency preparation. The award-winning LifeStraw personal filter, LifeStraw Go refillable water bottle and LifeStraw Mission high-volume purifier transform microbiologically contaminated water into safe drinking water. LifeStraw is also a gift that gives back. For each consumer purchase of any LifeStraw product, one school child in Africa is provided with safe water for an entire school year.
The personal LifeStraw is a straw-like tube measuring nine inches long by one inch in diameter, and weighing less than two ounces. Users simply draw unfiltered water directly from the source through the straw. LifeStraw Go incorporates the "straw" into a durable, reusable water bottle. With the gravity powered LifeStraw Mission, users fill the nylon roll bag with water, clip the strap around a tree branch or other sturdy overhead source, and connect the hose to the bag to access water from the outlet.
LifeStraw filters remove virtually all bacteria and protozoa that can contaminate water, and reduce turbidity (muddiness) by filtering out particulate matter. LifeStraw Mission also removes viruses. All use hollow fiber technology, a highly efficient filtration method which requires no chemicals, electrical power, batteries or replacement parts. Personal LifeStraw and LifeStraw Go will filter 264 gallons of water; LifeStraw Mission will purify up to 4,755 gallons of water throughout its long lifetime. All meet the highest quality standards set by the US EPA.
LifeStraw is also a gift that gives back by way of the ongoing Follow the Liters program. Through this program, a portion of the revenue from each LifeStraw purchased by a consumer is used to purchase and distribute high-volume LifeStraw purifiers to schools in western Kenya without access to safe water. The second annual Follow the Liters distribution was completed in November. Combined with last year's distribution, more than 361,000 school aged children in the region now have sustainable access to safe water.
The suggested retail price for the personal LifeStraw filter is $24.95, LifeStraw Go is $34.95, and LifeStraw Mission is $144.95 for the 5-liter version and $154.95 for the 12-liter version. All can be purchased online or through a retailer. For more information visit www.lifestraw.com.
LifeStraw's Backstory
LifeStraw is manufactured by Vestergaard (www.vestergaard.com), a Swiss-based global company dedicated to improving the health of disadvantaged people with game-changing solutions that fight diarrheal disease, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and neglected tropical diseases. Vestergaard introduced the first LifeStraw water filter in 2005 for public health use in developing countries. In 2011, Vestergaard began selling LifeStraw filters to consumers and expanded the brand to include water filters and purifiers with more features (e.g., higher volume, safe water storage) for use in households, clinics and schools.
