"Lesa France Kennedy and Brian France's refusal to engage with Minority Youth Matters Movement (MYMM), leaves NASCAR Sponsors vulnerable for potential Boycott"
The Minority leaders have met with the MYMM organization and have outlined a Strategic targeted potential Boycott of several of NASCAR Corporate Sponsors.
City Buzz Local interview with Terrance Alton Cox lll leader of MYMM
ATLANTA, Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
What does MYMM want from Sponsors?
NASCAR is putting their Sponsors in a vulnerable position with the minority community's dollars by not engaging with MYMM communities and minority youth. We want the sponsors to have NASCAR engage more with minorities and we want the sponsors to engage with minority racing organizations as well as help educate the minority kids about the opportunities in the motorsports industries. Corporate sponsors should be aware that minorities make up 50 percent of their revenue.
How far is the MYMM willing to go?
This movement is bigger than me, it is made up of many communities across the country and people of all backgrounds that buy products. I am humbled by the energy, these ordinary people across the country have demonstrated. I get many phone calls and emails from Americans of all ethnicities declaring their willingness to fight to the end. I am now obligated to see this through by protesting NASCAR and possibly boycotting sponsors until change comes.
What made MYMM release the controversial 6 minute documentary NNIN, and the song that is going global?
This NINN documentary and song was created by a group of young people. This video reflects the culture and attitudes of how the youth community see NASCAR. They understand clearly that minorities generate 50 percent of corporate revenue while NASCAR sponsors are encouraging and supporting this separation of culture and non-inclusive policies. This video tells the story of racism toward minorities in NASCAR since 1948. It also highlights the story of Wendell Scott, first black to win a race in NASCAR who was not granted the satisfaction of claiming victory until the day after the race. Actually, 1948 wasn't that long ago and apparently the attitudes and polices within the culture of NASCAR remain the same.
Where do you see the minority communities and NASCAR in two years?
Engaging the minority community is a win/win for both sides. The TV ratings will go up from new viewership and minorities will fill the empty seats around the track. The minority communities will save the NASCAR Hall of Fame by the amount of new clients generated, meanwhile you will see kids of all colors wearing the teams and NASCAR brand. You will see young minority drivers begin to pop up. Two years from now I predict there will be 3 to 4 major teams owed by minorities. Kids will have a clear education on how NASCAR operates and sponsors will have a clear understanding of the power of partnering with minority NASCAR teams.
Well I would like to thank you Mr. Cox for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview. From my understanding you have many media outlets looking to get your take on the MYMM.
Yes, we have been generating a very large buzz since this movement started. I would like to thank you for flying out here on such short notice to get our position on NASCAR.
