Liang was convicted of manslaughter in the killing, but the charge was reduced to criminally negligent homicide at the sentencing.
Gurley's family had called for prison time for the cop, according to The NY Daily News. However, Liang was sentenced to five years' probation and 800 hours of community service.
According to the article, "scores of angry protesters" outside the courthouse were chanting about the "system." Meanwhile, there were also "about 100" "cop supporters" yelling about justice for Liang.
