Lebanese American University to present lectures on Middle East at New York Headquarters and Academic Center in Midtown Manhattan
"Arab Approaches to Conflict Resolution" and "Lebanon's World Heritage Sites"
NEW YORK, Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lebanese American University (LAU) will present a pair of lectures at the LAU New York Headquarters and Academic Center (NYHQAC), 211 East 46th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues) in New York City on September 16 and 17.
On Tuesday, September 16, the Academic Center and the Consul General of Lebanon in New York, Hon. Majdi Ramadan, will host a book discussion from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Speaking will be Nahla Yassine-Hamdan and Frederic S. Pearson, co-authors of the new book, "Arab Approaches to Conflict Resolution."
Key topics for the discussion include how conflict management within the Arab world contrasts and correlates to the non-Arab world; the approaches of leaders for managing political conflict within the Middle East; and whether these approaches account for women's participation in peacemaking as a key factor to sustainable peace.
Dr. Yassine-Hamdan is adjunct professor of Political Science at Wayne State University. She is an expert on Middle East Politics, a certified mediator and board member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.
Dr. Pearson is professor of Political Science, Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Wayne State University. He is a recognized authority on international military intervention and ethnic conflict analysis and has hosted conflict resolution delegations from across the world.
On Wednesday, September 17, from 6:30 – 8:30p.m., the Academic Center in conjunction with the LAU New York/New Jersey Alumni Chapter will host Nada Sara, who will lead the presentation, "Lebanon's World Heritage Sites."
Those interested in nature and cultural conservation shouldn't miss this visually captivating slide presentation in which Nada Sara will address the criteria by which five properties in Lebanon were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The sites reflect a rich tradition of cross-cultural interactions that have contributed to shaping our world today.
Sara holds a Masters of Laws degree from Fordham University and degrees in Lebanese and French Law from Saint Joseph University. She is actively involved in supporting education for Lebanese children.
