Leading Italian Piedmont oenologist and indie winemaker daughter land $750K in crowdfunding to develop authentic Italian wines under their own Cordero label
NAPA, Calif., March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Gianfranco and Serena Cordero, a father-daughter team who are winemakers specializing in the production of extravagant wines from Italy's Piedmont region, raised $750K in crowdfunding from NakedWines.com wine enthusiasts to develop wines under their own family label. Today, they're producing Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera wines that are sold exclusively to Angels – independent NakedWines.com investors – for a fraction of the cost that will be offered to the public in the upcoming general release.
An accomplished winemaker and oenologist with more than 130 clients in the Piedmont, Gianfranco Cordero helped make Barolo the King of Wines, serving as a consultant to wineries such as G.D. Vajra, makers of fine Barolos that sell for well over $200 a bottle. His daughter, Serena Cordero, is an indie winemaking sensation in her own right. The two began producing wines in 2006, using grapes from the vineyard once worked by Serena Cordero's late grandfather, Teresio, working in his memory to produce wines that are legendary for their exceptional balance, elegance and flavor.
"We're proud to introduce the world to Northern Italy's best wines in terms of quality for a price wine drinkers can afford," said Serena Cordero. "By working with NakedWines.com, we can focus on our vision of producing the very best wines the region has to offer for wine enthusiasts worldwide without getting sidetracked by marketing and distribution."
"Gianfranco has made wines that are fit for a king for decades, and his talented daughter Serena quickly became a well-established winemaker and consultant who has made her mark on the region," said Rowan Gormley, founder of NakedWines.com. "They are rock stars in the Italian winemaking world, and now our Angels can drink like royalty without breaking the bank."
