NEWTON, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Almost 350 hospitals in 35 states and the District of Columbia now rely on HIPAA-compliant, Web-based software from Curaspan Health Group to more efficiently move patients from acute to post-acute care. Curaspan is the industry leader in building secure electronic patient-transition networks for hospitals, post-acute providers and suppliers to optimize patient care.
Year to date, Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio; Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.; Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System in Suffolk, Va.; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, N.J.; and Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla., are among the more than one dozen leading facilities that have selected eDischarge. eDischarge is the Curaspan software-as-a-service (SaaS) application repeatedly recognized for excellence by the Health Care Advisory Board and named "Best in KLAS" for 2009 by the KLAS health-care IT research firm.
"It didn't take long for us to start realizing tremendous benefits. We saved time, became more efficient and found it much easier to identify providers for hard-to-place patients," said Sandra D'Cruz, vice president of operations of Holmes Regional Medical Center, a Health First facility.
Health First is an integrated health-care delivery network with four hospitals in Brevard County Florida that selected eDischarge to integrate seamlessly with the ACS MIDAS+ Care Management system. Holmes Regional, Cape Canaveral Hospital and Palm Bay Hospital also deployed it, and Viera Hospital will do so next year. "The Curaspan implementation and training teams got us up and running quickly and easily," added D'Cruz.
Holmes Regional is one of 74 hospitals in 19 states that started using the Curaspan eDischarge application in the first three quarters of 2010 to manage patient transitions. It integrates with all health-care information systems from vendors like Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, McKesson, MEDITECH, Morrisey Associates, PointClickCare and Siemens.
With its proprietary methodology for six- to eight-week implementations, Curaspan helps community hospitals, academic medical centers and integrated delivery networks move their post-acute provider networks online to a secure communications network that facilitates the sharing of documents for more timely and more targeted patient placements. The Curaspan eDischarge application this year will generate approximately 2 million provider matches for patients.
"Our customers' commitment to using smart technology gives them a clear advantage," said Thomas R. Ferry, president and CEO of Curaspan. "With the capability to exchange information electronically, they're able to capture data automatically, easily review key metrics and proactively take steps to improve their operations and ultimately their business outcomes."
In addition to generating reports on readmissions rates, average LOS, provider performance and network leakage, eDischarge assists hospitals with their conversion to electronic health records and demonstration of meaningful use. Once users upload documents, they are able to electronically exchange key clinical information among providers across the continuum of care.
An 11-year old company that has helped set the standard for the secure transmission of clinical data about patients moving from one level of care to another, Curaspan works with many of the nation's top hospitals and post-acute care providers. Among them are Johns Hopkins Health System, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Saint Thomas Health Services (part of Ascension Health), Riverside Health System, Vanguard Health Systems, Amedisys Home Health Services, American Medical Response, Gentiva Health Services, Golden LivingCenters, Kindred Healthcare, Life Care Centers of America and SunBridge Healthcare.
