Leading Anti-Money Laundering Association Takes lead in Exploring the Ramifications of Recent FATF Revisions
Free ACAMS webinar draws more than 2,000 attendees
MIAMI, March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) has announced a free web seminar on March 6 dedicated to the recent revisions made to the FATF 40 +9 (now 40) recommendations entitled, Understanding What the FATF Revisions Mean to You.
"After more than two years of debate, the FATF delegates made important revisions to the 40 +9 Recommendations, in an effort to build an even stronger framework for combating financial crime and terrorist financing," said John Byrne, CAMS, ACAMS executive vice president. "Though these changes will undoubtedly help AML/CTF professionals in the long run, in the short term it leaves our community with an abundance of uncertainty in understanding how they may need to adapt to these revisions. As the world leader in AML/CTF compliance, ACAMS is proud to be taking the initiative in helping our membership understand the possible implications these changes could have for their compliance program."
Byrne, who will be moderating the event, will be joined by ACAMS Advisory Board Chairman, Richard Small, CAMS, as well as the lead United States FATF Delegation Official, and Director for the Office of Strategic Policy for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Chip Poncy.
"We are thrilled to have Chip Poncy joining us for this event," said Byrne when asked about Poncy's involvement in the web seminar. "As the lead U.S. FATF delegate, Mr. Poncy has intimate knowledge of the reasoning and rationale that went into the FATF's decision to make these changes. His participation is providing an invaluable perspective that will move our community much closer to understanding how these changes could affect them."
During the course of this hour and a half event, the panelists will share their insights and points of view on the possible regulatory, legal or policy changes that could result for member countries, as well as discuss what AML/CTF professionals can do now to help prepare.
"This is an event that every financial crime professional should be attending. These revisions will have long lasting and far reaching consequences. Whether working in the private or public sector, attending this web seminar will provide the foresight to adopt new policies around changes if and when they occur," concluded Byrne.
This web seminar is open to the public and registration may be found at www2.acams.org/FATF.
