SALT LAKE CITY, March 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Karen Semon, a leadership and executive coach with more than 25 years of experience, will speak at Western Governors University's (WGU) lecture series, Sage Talks, on Monday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. MDT. Semon will discuss the characteristics of transformational leaders and offer interactive, practical tools for developing leadership skills. The lecture will take place at The Leonardo, an interactive museum in the heart of Salt Lake City, and will be streamed live online. Semon's coaching philosophy is that everyone can be a leader, whether they manage people or not, and discovering the way each individual leads is the key to unlocking their leadership potential. "Some people lead out of their structure and order. Others lead out of their innovation and creativity. Leader, know thyself," said Semon.
Semon's insights into organizational and human behavior have developed during her time at companies such as Sterling Commerce, an IBM Company, where she led teams in a variety of roles in marketing, IT, product management, and human resources. Currently, in addition to running her own practice, Centerpoint Leadership, Semon provides coaching for Kinetic Insights and Right Management in Columbus, Ohio. Semon has earned master's degrees in both conflict management and business psychology. She has completed the Graduate Executive Coaching program at the University of Texas at Dallas and is a professionally certified coach through the International Coach Federation.
Following the lecture, the public is invited to a reception hosted by WGU leadership and faculty at The Leonardo. Attendees are encouraged to mingle and meet the speaker and WGU leaders. Museum admission is included with registration.
WGU's lecture series, Sage Talks, is named after the university's mascot and has been created to provide personal and professional development, inspiration, and continuing education opportunities to the community. The series features leaders and innovators in fields represented by each of WGU's four colleges: business, education, healthcare, and information technology. Lecture topics are centered on leadership, new innovations and disruptions, and how education shapes the future.
