Lawyers to Provide Veterans and Military Personnel with Free Legal Aid

NEWARK, N.J., July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In partnership with the PSEG Foundation and the PSEG Law Department, the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) will hold its next free legal counsel clinic for veterans and active duty military personnel on July 22, 2014. The Military Personnel/ Veterans Legal Assistance Project (MLAP) clinic will be held at PSEG's Corporate Headquarters, 80 Park Plaza, Newark, NJ.

Clinics are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month and are available to military personnel, active and retired. Any member of the military interested in the clinic can easily schedule an appointment by calling VLJ at 973-645-1955.

Volunteer attorneys from PSEG, McCarter & English LLP, and Gibbons PC, will be available to assist with matters like renewing driver's licenses, expunging obsolete criminal records, and clearing unresolved child support claims, among other legal services. VLJ and PSEG established the program earlier this year to provide legal counsel and limited scope representation to both veterans and active duty military personnel and PSEG Foundation is providing the funding for this program.

Volunteer attorneys from PSEG, McCarter and Gibbons will work in teams at the clinic. If extended representation is required, volunteer attorneys from the law firms will assume those cases.

VLJ provides comprehensive legal services to economically disadvantaged adults, children and families in New Jersey to ensure fair and equal treatment within the legal system. Programs include free legal counsel and advice, educational seminars on various legal matters, and direct representation for at-risk individuals facing critical civil legal issues.
