Latin Trade Group Releases the Ranking of The 100 Most Powerful Businesspeople in Latin America
MIAMI, June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Latin Trade Group announces the release of the 2015 edition of the 100 Most Powerful Businesspeople in Latin America.
From multi-billionaires to up-and-coming magnates, this list includes business leaders from a wide range of sectors across the region.
The sectors represented on the list include telecommunications, technology, food and drink, hospitality, mining and energy, among others.
In line with the region's economies, it should come as no surprise that the majority of business leaders come from Brazil and Mexico, such as Jorge Paulo Lemann (3G Capital), Carlos Slim (America Movil among others), Roberto Egydio Setubal (CEO Itau) and Emilio Azcarraga (President Grupo Televisa) to name a few.
However, the businesspeople on our list will likely face challenges in the foreseeable future as Latin America faces economic headwinds, with the price of oil falling to record lows, and foreign direct investment throughout the region dropping 16 percent last year, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
But their leadership and business skills have already been proven, because being at the helm of the region's largest companies means they are tackling this scenario by planning expansions, mergers and acquisitions.
Mexican companies for example are eyeing deals as the country's government implements constitutional reforms that will open the nation's oil sector to private investment, and promises more competition in telecoms.
In Brazil, JBS, the world's largest meatpacker, is looking for opportunities from North America to Australia, according to CEO Wesley Batista.
Companies from across the region are also looking at deals with China, as the Asian giant has recently increased its presence and announced several deals after Premier Li Keqiang's tour of Chile, Brazil, Colombia and Peru in late May. Among the deals are infrastructure, financial and trade cooperation.
So whatever the sector and situation, the 100 business leaders on our list have earned their places through their hard work, foresight, ability to innovate and adapt, and steer their companies to leading positions in the region and the world.
