Larry B. Perkins, CFE, CPP, CMP, Named as Recipient of IAVM's Prestigious Charles A. McElravy Award
COPPELL, Texas, Jan. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) is pleased to announce, Larry B. Perkins, CFE, CPP, CMP, Assistant General Manager of the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, as the recipient of the Charles A. McElravy Award. Perkins will be honored at the IAVM's VenueConnect 2012 in Ft. Lauderdale on July 23.

The McElravy Award, named in honor of one of the founding organizers of the IAVM Charles A. McElravy, was initiated in 1963 and is granted at the discretion of the Board of Directors for extraordinary contributions to the Association and the industry it serves in professional venue management.

Mr. Perkins, a graduate of John Jay College, has been a member of IAVM since 1996, earning his CFE in 2005. He served as President of IAVM from 2006-2007 and has served in numerous volunteer capacities including membership on: Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, Board of Education, Board of Governors, Board of Regents, Life Safety Council, and the Academy for Venue Safety & Security.
He is the author of "Crowd Safety and Survival – Practical Event and Public Gathering Safety Tips," 2004 and "Crowd Management; in the eye of the storm," 1997. Recently, Larry appeared on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" and a NBC TV Dateline segment on crowd safety and survival entitled, "Get Out Alive." On February 17, 2009, Governor, Bev Perdue, appointed Larry as a Commissioner to the North Carolina State Emergency Response Commission.
