Laplink beat out some of the biggest names in the software industry for the Best Computer: Software Social Media Campaign of 2010
BELLEVUE, Wash., April 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Laplink Software, Inc. today announced that it beat out some of the biggest names in the software industry and was awarded with the Best Computer: Software Social Media Campaign in the 2011 Internet Advertising Competition.
Laplink was awarded for its Laptop Giveaway Campaign, that ran in October and November of 2010, in which it partnered with Lenovo® to give away two of their new ThinkPad® Edge laptops. The contest was aimed at driving more Laplink brand awareness and opening up alternative lines of communication to the company through social media avenues. This strategy was extremely successful generating over 14 million impressions from the campaign.
"14 million impressions is a staggering number considering the bulk of them came from organic buzz," said Laplink Marketing Manager Neil Minetto. "Not only did we have a lot of people talking about us, but we were also able to turn them into customers and brand advocates."
The marketing team posted content to Facebook®, Twitter® and the Laplink blog every day, Monday through Friday, which gave users an easy way to interact with the team and helped to establish a more open, communicative and personal side of Laplink. This strategy worked well as the team saw over eight million impressions through Twitter alone, which opened numerous lines of communication to consumers.
The contest was set up as a kind of raffle and the rules stipulated that entrants were eligible to receive unlimited entries, one for simply entering the contest and then one each time they mentioned Laplink or one of Laplink's products on the web. This ensured that posts relating to the contest were easily tracked and could always be linked back to Laplink.
"We wanted to show consumers that Laplink is made of people," continued Minetto. "I think marketing is often too formal; there is a time and place to kick your legs up and have an open discussion with your consumers and this campaign helped us do that through our social media channels. Our team did an incredible job putting this campaign together and it feels great to be recognized for our efforts."
Piggy-backing this campaign, Laplink is finalizing plans to launch a week-long spin off of the award-winning contest in which entrants will have the opportunity to win the "famous" laptop that was featured previously in daily posts. The Famous Laptop Contest will be structured similar to the previous campaign and will give contestants a platform to talk about their favorite parts about the contest, vote on favorite pictures and posts and re-engage with the Laplink team.
