KPMG Leads Big Four On Fortune's List Of 100 Best Companies To Work For
Firm surges 17 spots to become the highest ranked of the major accounting firms. Innovative culture initiatives and employee programs have contributed to record levels of engagement.
NEW YORK, March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For the eighth time in nine years, KPMG was named one of the country's 100 Best Companies to Work For by FORTUNE Magazine, advancing 17 spots to No. 63 on the prestigious annual list, becoming the highest ranking of the Big Four accounting firms.
"There is nothing more important to KPMG's success than having a culture where our people feel inspired by their work and the opportunities ahead of them, and valued for their contributions to their team and the firm. We take enormous pride in being ranked as one of the best companies to work for in the U.S.," said John Veihmeyer, chairman and CEO of KPMG in the U.S. and Global Chairman of the firm's international network. "This is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our people. Their sense of purpose, extraordinary talents and hard work, and the culture of high performance, innovation and inclusion they have built, are at the heart of what makes KPMG a great place to work."
As part of its ongoing efforts to foster a purpose-driven culture, the firm in 2014 raised its people's awareness of KPMG's role in numerous historic events. With these inspiring stories as a backdrop, KPMG invited its people to share their own stories of higher purpose in the work that they do. More than 40,000 responses flooded in – including stories of revitalizing villages in Africa, advancing scientific research in the Antarctic, ensuring excavated minerals are "conflict free" and mined without the use of child labor, and helping to ensure that families have access to affordable healthcare.
"Our success comes from our people putting our values and purpose into action," says Veihmeyer, "knowing that KPMG is not only doing well, it's also doing good."
FORTUNE's 100 Best Companies to Work For are evaluated on five key elements of a thriving corporate culture: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. Within its industry, KPMG showed particularly strong results in key areas including compensation and work/life balance. An important component of the firm's culture is to reward its employees and ensure that its people share in the success of its multiple business lines. To that end, last April the firm implemented a number of significant benefits enhancements, including doubling its 401(k) match to make it the highest among the Big 4; more than doubling its parental leave benefit for primary caregivers; and doubling its short-term disability leave.
In addition to the FORTUNE 100 list, KPMG has received recognition from other influential organizations for its continued efforts around creating an even better work environment for its people, both personally and professionally. Some of these accolades include: The Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index; DiversityInc magazine's Top 50 Companies for Diversity; Training magazine's Top 10 Hall of Fame; Working Mother's Best Companies for Multicultural Women, and 100 Best Companies; Universum's World's Most Attractive Employers; and NAFE's Top 50 Companies for Executive Women.
