Korbel California Champagne® Honors American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament
Korbel hosts signature events with fan favorite sports and entertainment superstars
GUERNEVILLE, Calif., June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Korbel California Champagne® will once again sponsor and hold signature events at this year's American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, July 11-16 in Lake Tahoe. Thousands of fans will join in with sports and entertainment icons to toast the competition both on and off the course with Korbel's highly-anticipated, annual events. The events include the ever-popular Celebrity Spray-Off and the sixth annual Closest-to-the-Pin contest, with $250,000 riding on the winning title. Both players and spectators alike will be invited to enjoy the festivities and Lake Tahoe's beautiful scenery while raising a glass with the tournament's signature "Korbel Sparkling Eagle" cocktail.
"Korbel and celebrating go hand in hand, and we're proud to carry on our lively traditions as part of our partnership with the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship," said Gary Heck, Korbel owner and president. "It's outstanding to see how popular our events have become among celebrities and fans alike, but the reason for these celebratory occasions remain the same – coming together to raise money for a good cause."
Korbel will offer fans and celebrities numerous opportunities to participate in the fun such as:
Celebrity Closest-to-the-Pin Contest: $250,000 is on the line during this sixth-annual contest that brings together 15 of the tournament's best players to compete in the Korbel Closest-to-the-Pin contest. Half of the prize winnings will be donated to charity. This year's contest takes place on Friday, July 14 on hole 17 after the first round of play.
Celebrity Spray-Off: As sports and entertainment superstars make their way to the 18th tee, Korbel will challenge players to show off their best champagne celebration skills as part of the annual Celebrity Spray-Off, taking place on Thursday, July 13. Participants will have the chance to win $5,000 for a charity of their choice, courtesy of the Korbel Toast Life® Foundation. Korbel will judge participants on champagne spray creativity and cork distance. Last year, the Celebrity Spray-Off brought out more than 30 contestants, including last year's winner, Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus and runner up, former Pro Bowl Quarterback Mark Rypien.
Celebratory Signature Cocktail: Korbel pays tribute to the Celebrity Closest-to-the-Pin contest with an official drink, the "Korbel Sparkling Eagle." Reflecting the spirit of Lake Tahoe, the "Korbel Sparkling Eagle" features Korbel California Champagne, lemonade, and melon liqueur and is served in a lowball glass with a large maraschino cherry garnish at the bottom, representing the hole-in-one.
Celebrating Responsibly: Korbel, in partnership with TEAM Coalition, is challenging tournament fans to sign a responsibility pledge that outlines ways in which to celebrate responsibly. Everyone who attends the event plays an important role by drinking responsibly, behaving respectfully, and always having a designated driver. On Thursday and Friday of tournament play, fans can sign a large oversized golf ball to show their support.
