Knock Hires Yelp's Former VP of Marketing to Build Next Big Consumer Brand
Key Hires in Marketing and Operations Will Drive Online Real Estate Platform's Growth and Expansion
NEW YORK, May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing the company's mission of making home selling simple and certain, Knock announces two key hires to support its platform offering homeowners a guaranteed way to sell their home in six weeks or less.
Joining after a successful nine-year run at Yelp is Colleen Curtis as vice president of marketing. Knock is also bringing on board Stephen Wegner as director of operations. These team members will be instrumental in helping the company showcase its proposition for homeowners to sell or trade in their home instantly. Curtis will focus on helping build the Knock brand, and Wegner will be tasked with helping streamline, productize and automate what is the largest and currently most time-consuming purchase of most consumers' lives.
Curtis joins the Knock team directly from Yelp, where she served as the vice president of international marketing. During her tenure, she helped build the brand from the ground up and led marketing strategy and execution for all international Yelp domains with a focus on platform growth and user acquisition. Curtis was instrumental in expanding and nurturing communities first in the U.S. before expanding internationally. She is excited to help support a product platform that solves a true pain point in a consumer-facing market.
"The real estate market has been ripe for disruption, and Knock is perfectly positioned to optimize a service that consumers are ready for," said Curtis. She continued: "The Knock founding team are the absolutely best for solving this problem, and it's an amazing opportunity to get involved with an early-stage company where our marketing strategy will touch every part of the process of working with consumers."
Knock CEO and co-founder Sean Black said, "Colleen is bringing us the perfect mix of skills and and entrepreneurial spirit, joining us from a highly successful consumer-facing tech platform to help us hone in our our brand and message as we continue to delight customers at every step of the home-selling journey." Curtis' position will encompass driving and measuring a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy while working closely with other teams, including product design, engineering and operations, to ensure consumers receive a remarkable experience at every touchpoint.
Also joining the Knock team is Stephen Wegner, who will take on the role of director of operations. In this capacity, Wegner will work across teams to increase operational efficiency across the entire home-selling process. Wegner joins Knock from AdQuick, where he was a founding team member and helped streamline the back-end transactions and contracts involved in outdoor advertising.
Prior to AdQuick, Wegner served as an engagement manager for McKinsey & Company, leading client teams in the high-tech industry. Wegner specialized in working with Fortune 1000 tech companies to streamline operations and identify organizational improvements, including centralizing shared services at globally distributed sites. Wegner will utilize these skills and experiences to make Knock's superior home selling process, which turns what was a complex transaction into a simple and painless process for the consumer, even more efficient. These same efficiencies will allow Knock to quickly scale and expand into additional markets this year.
At Knock, Wegner will oversee a team of operations staff that currently assists with all points of the home-selling transaction. Additionally, he will work closely with product, design and engineering teams to support moving what was a complicated offline transaction entirely online with Knock's single end-to-end proprietary platform. Wegner holds an MBA from the University of Virginia.
Knock launched Atlanta in February with a Series A round of $32.5 million led by RRE Ventures, and included investors and advisors from Redpoint, Greycroft, Correlation Ventures, Corazon Capital, Great Oaks Venture Capital and FJ Labs. The Knock platform uses data science to price homes accurately, technology to sell them quickly and a dedicated team of professionals to guide sellers every step of the way.
