CLEVELAND, Feb. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- KeyBank will host its annual Super Refund Saturday event on February 4, 2017, partnering with community organizations to provide free tax season and post-tax season support. For twelve years, KeyBank employees have worked alongside volunteers from community organizations to provide free tax preparation services to those who need it most, helping low- to moderate-income individuals and families determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and get more money back.
"We come to work at KeyBank every day looking for ways to make meaningful and positive change in the communities we serve. And we succeed when we balance mission and margin," said Bruce Murphy, KeyCorp's Head of Corporate Responsibility. "Super Refund Saturday is this vision realized. We are proud to offer our expertise and help ensure all of our neighbors understand and take advantage of the tax credits to which they are entitled."
The EITC is a refundable tax credit for low- to moderate-income individuals and families with eligible children who do not earn enough to file a tax return. Since its inception in 1975, it has been deployed as a top anti-poverty tool; in fact, per the IRS, 26 million people have received close to $65.6 billion in EITC credits in 2016.
According to the IRS, to qualify for the EITC earned income must be less than:
- $47,955 ($53,505 if married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
- $44,648 ($50,198 if married filing jointly) with two or more qualifying children
- $39,296 ($44,846 if married filing jointly) with one or more qualifying child
- $14,880 ($20,430 if married filing jointly) with no qualifying children
According to the IRS, the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit a tax filer can receive is:
- $6,269 with three or more qualifying children
- $5,572 with two qualifying children
- $3,373 with one qualifying child
- $506 with no qualifying children
If participating in Super Refund Saturday, income tax return filers should bring these documents:
- Valid photo ID
- Social Security card for themselves and each dependent
- W-2 Forms (reporting full-time wages)
- Previous year's tax return
- 1099 Forms (reporting part-time work and interest income), if applicable
- Unemployment forms, if applicable
- Proof of childcare payments
- Other IRS forms, as appropriate
- Bank account information and bank routing number
In 2016, KeyBank assisted over 1,020 individuals and facilitated over $2.08 million in tax returns for low-to-moderate income families and individuals.
