Joyce Foundation Announces $10 Million in Spring 2010 Grants
CHICAGO, April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Joyce Foundation announced it is awarding 49 organizations nearly $10 million in its spring 2010 grant making cycle. Invested in six different program areas including Education, Employment, Environment, Culture, Gun Violence, and Money and Politics, these funds will support new and continuing initiatives that will have an impact on states within the Great Lakes region.
"At Joyce, our goal is to support organizations and opportunities that can make a real difference in the lives of Great Lakes residents," said Ellen S. Alberding, president of the Joyce Foundation. "In these challenging economic times, we want to ensure our focus remains on the policy issues that really matter to our region."
Examples of Joyce's spring 2010 grants include:
Education: $250,000 to Thomas B. Fordham Institute for the Policy Innovation in Education Network (PIE Net), which supports a network of state advocacy organizations working to improve schools in their states.
Employment: $300,000 to Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights for continued support of the National Transitional Jobs Network, a national coalition dedicated to advancing employment solutions for people with the most difficulty entering and succeeding in work.
Environment: $390,000 to the Ohio Environmental Council to implement energy efficiency programs in Ohio and speed the development and deployment of carbon capture and storage in the state.
Gun Violence: $80,000 to John Jay College of Criminal Justice to support work on gun violence at the Center on Media, Crime and Justice.
Money and Politics: $250,000 to the League of Women Voters of Ohio Education Fund to help reform the state's election administration, judicial selection, redistricting and campaign finance law.
Culture: $150,000 to the National Museum of Mexican Art to support new exhibits and other activities around The Year of Mexico in Chicago.
