Jeppesen EFB Solutions Help Pegasus Airlines Transition To Digital Flight Operations
EFB services moving airline away from paper-based flight materials
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, recently signed a new three-year service contract with Pegasus Airlines, a leading low-cost carrier of Turkey, to provide the airline with Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) services with tailored digital charts. The agreement provides access to Jeppesen's industry-leading digital navigation charts and NavData information through both FliteDeck Pro on Windows-based tablets and the e-Link online platform to reduce use of paper-based flight materials.
"We continue our longstanding relationship with Jeppesen by adding new digital services, including tailored digital charts and Windows-based EFB technology," said Omer Kaya, vice president, Performance & CIT, Pegasus Airlines. "Ultimately, we would like to completely eliminate paper-based flight information from our aircraft fleet and Jeppesen provides the foundation for achieving the necessary paperless authorization to do so."
Pegasus Airlines has been a Jeppesen customer since its founding in 1990. Previously, the airline has used standard paper charts and NavData information in its flight operations. Through the new agreement, Pegasus Airlines pilots will have multiple options to access essential data in digital form, to enhance operational efficiency, reduce pilot workload and increase situational awareness in flight.
Jeppesen e-Link online services supplement paper charting through a Web-based application, which is presented in a Windows operating environment. Mobile EFB services provided in coordination with the airline's Windows-based tablets will help enhance efficiency through real time, data-driven EFB information that is presented on screen per pilot preference. The removal of paper-based flight information also leads to significant fuel savings through weight reduction, on an annual basis.
"We are pleased to help Pegasus Airlines make the transition from paper to digital flight information, which helps to streamline airline operations," said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. "We will continue to support Pegasus Airlines as they continue to rapidly grow their operations and progress with their journey to achieve a fully digital working environment on the ground and in the air."
Through the agreement, Pegasus Airlines also continues implementation of Jeppesen NavData services, which provide the airline with precise, GPS-based navigation information for the flight deck while incorporating thousands of complex global airspace changes.
