Jeanne A. Conry, MD, PhD, Named President Elect of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
OAKLAND, Calif., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente physician Jeanne A. Conry, MD, PhD, has been named president elect of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In 2013, she will become the top elected official of the national organization dedicated to high-quality women's health.
"As a Kaiser Permanente physician, I am thrilled to represent the physicians in the United States, and the women that we serve," said Dr. Conry. "There are many challenges in health care today, in the legislative arena, in the delivery systems, and certainly in terms of quality. In California alone we have seen maternal mortality triple in the last decade. I look forward to having an opportunity to champion preconception and interconception health, with a focus on planning for pregnancy through the timing of reproductive health choices and management of chronic medical conditions."
Dr. Conry is assistant physician-in-chief at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, and associate clinical professor of OB-GYN at the University of California, Davis. She has been practicing OB-GYN at Kaiser Permanente for more than 20 years.
Dr. Conry's professional interests include menopausal health and preconception care. She brought the value of those interests to her role as assistant physician-in-chief, in which she shaped the Roseville group's chronic conditions management program to include women's health needs and preconception care. She also was instrumental in overseeing the development of Kaiser Permanente's Women and Children's Center.
Dr. Conry has served as chair of the California Preconception Care Council from 2006 to 2010 and currently serves on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Select Panel on Preconception, a coalition of government and health care providers that seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes by emphasizing the need for healthy choices across the reproductive life span of women.
An advocate of healthy living with exercise, diet and preventive care, Dr. Conry leads wellness activities in the Northern Sacramento Valley. She has promoted member and employee wellness throughout her region, engaged employer groups to improve worksite wellness and worked tirelessly to improve the overall health of the greater Sacramento community.
Dr. Conry earned her medical degree from the University of California, Davis. She also holds a doctor of philosophy in biology from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
