Jamba Juice, WNBA, and International Tennis Superstar Venus Williams Welcome New Partners as They Launch Year Two of "Team Up for a Healthy America"
USA Water Polo, the Golden State Warriors, and Nutrition Expert Tara Gidus join the Jamba Juice campaign focused on addressing childhood obesity.
EMERYVILLE, Calif., April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jamba Juice Company (NASDAQ: JMBA), a leading healthy, active lifestyle company, announced today the year-two launch of their Team Up for a Healthy America™ campaign established to help raise awareness of our nation's obesity epidemic. During 2011, the inaugural year for Team Up, Jamba Juice®, together with corporate, community and celebrity partners, helped engage millions of individuals in healthy activities while raising much needed athletic equipment funding for schools around the country.
Jamba® launched the program out of a desire to make a difference in the lives of children and to combat the obesity epidemic by showing America how pledging to make simple changes to eat more nutritious foods and become more physically active can lead to an overall improved lifestyle.
Starting today, people across the nation looking for ways to enhance their exercise and diet routines, can log onto http://www.myhealthpledge.com and sign up to participate in weekly health pledges, reinforcing the program's core message that small changes in daily habits can have big benefits to more healthful living. Similar to 2011, everyone who pledges can earn the title of "Ambassador of Fitness" and win fun prizes. Sample pledges include activities such as "Take a 15 minute walk once a day," "Shoot hoops with family and friends," "Eat fruit or veggies as an afternoon snack," "Take the stairs," or "Eat a healthy breakfast."
For every pledge received, Jamba Juice will make a $1 donation towards the purchase of athletic equipment for schools across the nation through DonorChoose.org, an online charity that provides students with the tools and experiences needed for an excellent education.
"At Jamba, we are passionate about our mission to inspire and simplify healthy living and that influences not only the products we develop, but the actions we take as a company to get everyone engaged in living a healthier, more active lifestyle," said James D. White, Chairman, President and CEO, Jamba Juice Company. "One of the most critical health issues facing our nation today is the childhood obesity epidemic. Together with our Team Up partners, we hope to inspire our youth to get active and to understand the importance of good nutrition and eating healthier."
Partners who have pledged to support the 2012 Team Up for a Healthy America campaign include Venus Williams, WNBA, National PTA, National Gardening Association, USA Water Polo, the Golden State Warriors, and Nutrition Expert Tara Gidus. Venus Williams will again serve as the campaign's official spokesperson.
"Maintaining the high level of performance demanded as a professional athlete requires that I eat nutritious and wholesome foods and follow a daily training schedule," said Venus Williams, tennis star and entrepreneur. "Team Up is a great way to get kids excited and engaged in doing daily and weekly activities that can lead to an overall healthier lifestyle. I am thrilled to be involved with such a fun, meaningful program and be named the official spokesperson for a second year. It gives me another opportunity to influence, inspire, and motivate kids to get up and get active and to help combat childhood obesity."
In addition to her role as Team Up spokesperson, Venus will host a series of tips for kids and recommendations for leading a more active lifestyle on her website at http://www.venuswilliams.com.
For the second consecutive year, WNBA athletes, coaches, and executives will take part in WNBA FIT programming in cities across the country to promote the Team Up for a Healthy America campaign with Jamba Juice. WNBA FIT is the league-wide initiative designed to positively influence young people and women to become physically active and raise awareness about how being fit improves health, self-image, and overall well-being.
