Jamba Juice Teams Up With Students In Pasadena To Launch Innovative Health And Wellness Program
"Team Up For a Healthy Breakfast" Challenge Designed to Encourage Healthier Start to Students' Day
EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Jamba Juice® announced today its participation in a breakfast challenge designed to increase the number of students who consume breakfast on a daily basis. From March 4 through March 22, students at both Pasadena High School and Marshall Fundamental School in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will compete against each other to see which school can drive the highest percentage of students to eat breakfast at school.
GENYOUth Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing child health and wellness through improved nutrition and physical activity is supporting Jamba in the event by providing a turnkey physical activity solution as part of Jamba's "Team Up For a Healthy America" campaign, which encourages kids to adopt better dietary and physical activity habits and provides athletic equipment to schools across the nation.
PUSD will host Jamba and GENYOUth officials during a post-launch event on Thursday, March 7th at Pasadena High School, to celebrate this unique partnership of students, service providers and businesses working together to make a difference in the health of our nation's youth. The promotion of consuming a healthy breakfast also aligns with the district's wellness policy and the acknowledgement that health and academic success are interrelated.
The participating PUSD high school that generates the highest percentage of participation in the Breakfast Challenge will be awarded a GENYOUth Physical Activity Ring, which is an innovative, portable device that encourages kids of all levels of athletic ability to increase their physical activity. Pairing the activity ring with the breakfast challenge will help to address both the dietary and physical activity needs of our nation's youth and encourage better overall fitness.
"We are pleased to support the PUSD's efforts in making sure kids are starting their day with a healthy breakfast," said Jamba chairman, president and CEO James D. White. "Our JambaGO™ smoothie machines, which make healthy breakfast options more readily available for students, and our 'Team Up For a Healthy America' program, which educates them about health and wellness in a fun way, are the perfect solution to driving incremental participation in school breakfasts. We are also thrilled with the support from GENYOUth, as it sets an example of how organizations like ours can work together to inspire and empower kids to live healthier, more active lives."
