Jamba Juice Teams Up with National PTA to Introduce a Healthy Way to Get Your Recommended Fruit Per Day
Healthy, Delicious and Fun -- New Five Fruit Frenzy(TM) Smoothie to Provide Schools and Students with a Nutritious, Feel Good Beverage Option
EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jamba Juice (Nasdaq: JMBA) and National PTA® announced today a new way to get your recommended dose of daily fruit with the debut of Jamba's new Five Fruit Frenzy™ smoothie. Created by Jamba in conjunction with top leaders from National PTA, the Five Fruit Frenzy blends blueberries, strawberries, bananas, peaches and mangos to offer young people a delicious way to help meet their recommended daily serving of fruits. Made from real, whole fruit, the new smoothie contains no added sugar and is an excellent source of Vitamin C.
The Five Fruit Frenzy is the latest initiative to come out of the ongoing relationship between Jamba Juice and National PTA and was designed to help boost the health and wellness of the nation's students by providing them with a healthier beverage option. Available to schools through the Jamba School Lunch Program, which offers schools the ability to purchase and sell Jamba Juice's All Fruit™ smoothies at fixed and reduced prices, the Five Fruit Frenzy will also be available as a new menu item at all Jamba Juice® locations. The new smoothie will play a further role as a key offering in Jamba's school giveback initiatives, which helps schools raise funds for health, wellness and physical education programs.
"National PTA is proud to have played a role in helping create this healthy smoothie as part of our efforts to achieve a greater level of nutritious choices for students in our schools," said Byron V. Garrett, Chief Executive Officer, National PTA. "Jamba brings an innovative approach to helping to address the important issue of obesity and wellness. We are proud to partner with them and work together toward solutions."
In November, Jamba Juice and National PTA created a PTA School Appreciation Card -- a keychain sized swipe card that can be used with every Jamba Juice purchase at participating Jamba Juice locations. Customers simply go to a Jamba location, make a purchase, swipe the card and a percentage of their purchase will be donated back to their local PTA and National PTA. Jamba has a goal to raise up to $1 million to support health, wellness and physical activity initiatives at local schools through the PTA relationship and nearly 1,500 schools have already signed up to participate in the program.
"We are committed to helping National PTA and our schools develop innovative, creative, fun programs that encourage healthy, active lifestyle choices for students," said James D. White, President and CEO, Jamba Juice Company. "This Five Fruit Frenzy smoothie, created for National PTA, leveraged Jamba's product development expertise to make a nutritious, tasty beverage with natural, whole fruits -- an essential ingredient to a healthy, balanced diet. It is one of many initiatives Jamba has launched to support healthier choices in schools."
National PTA and Jamba Juice made the Five Fruit Frenzy announcement during PTA's Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. Jamba served the new smoothie to more than 300 PTA advocates gathered at the three-day event to discuss education, child nutrition and wellness strategies. First Lady Michelle Obama, as well as a host of policy makers, elected officials and nutrition and school leaders, spoke at the conference.
"Jamba Juice, through our relationship with National PTA, is bringing unique solutions to the table," continued Mr. White. "We applaud First Lady Michelle Obama and National PTA for their leadership on these important issues. We will continue activating the innovative spirit of our company to inspire healthier living and more physical activity, particularly among youth."
National PTA and Jamba Juice, through their relationship, are working together to help support "Let's Move" -- a government program created to help children, parents, teachers, doctors, coaches, the non-profit business communities and others to understand the epidemic of childhood obesity and take steps to combat it.
