On October 31, NCATE notified iteachU.S. that it is accrediting the program for five years. In 2012, the council initially accredited iteachU.S. for two years.
iteachU.S. offers state-approved certification programs for teachers and principals. NCATE granted accreditation to both the teacher and principal programs.
Completing an Accredited Program Benefits Educators
Diann Huber, founder and president of iteachU.S., said that accreditation proves the quality of the iteachU.S. program. "Accreditation benefits candidates in our program because it shows prospective employers that our teachers and principals are well-prepared for their jobs," Huber said. "We are accredited by the same organization that accredits the some of the nation's top university programs."
Joan Frost, an aspiring teacher currently enrolled in the Texas program, said that accreditation influenced her decision to enroll in the program. "I followed in my husband's footstep in selecting a nationally accredited program," Frost said.
Completing an NCATE-accredited program increases the out-of-state reciprocity of an educator's license. Some states will only grant licensure reciprocity to individuals who have earned certification through an NCATE-accredited program.
iteachU.S. is approved by state departments of education in Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas.
iteachU.S. Met All Standards
The Continuous Improvement Commission of the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) granted the accreditation. The commission found that iteachU.S. needed no improvements toward any of the six standards for accreditation.
Huber attributes the successful review to iteachU.S.'s "excellent instructors and candidate supervisors, and the quality of [the program's] curriculum."
Describing her experience with iteachU.S., Frost said, "I…have a better and deeper understanding into what it takes to be an inspired and inspirational teacher. "
