HERNDON, Va., April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- InZero Systems announced that its WorkPlay Technology thwarts the type of cyber attack that hacked the White House.
InZero Chairman Lou Hughes, responding to follow-up questions after his recent Fox News and Government Security News interviews, explained:
"Phishing attacks, like that used by the hacker group APT28 to invade the President's home, are increasing and more sophisticated than ever, because they prey upon a weak link in the chain of cyber security — the end user. What makes matters worse is that these can steal data for years. There is nothing really new about this type of attack: it is similar to last year's massive breaches at Home Depot, Target, DHS, JPMorgan and more recently, Anthem and the worldwide energy sector attacks through reconnaissance malware."
Mr. Hughes suggested that we are all at fault:
"Why do these work? Because we all mix and match. We go back and forth between our work and personal lives. One minute doing an important email, the next looking at family Facebook pictures. We inevitably are also careless on occasion. Our increasing use of social media, games and apps of every nature and kind, brings with it an ever expanding playing field for cyber criminals to try out their malware. Every so often they succeed and when they do, it causes untold harm. If the data can be accessed, it can be stolen."
Mr. Hughes then turned to WorkPlay Technology:
"So we created a solution that completely prevents access to important data and network connections, yet recognizes that we all want and need personal, widespread internet use. We simply created a technology that physically separates the two using a single CPU."
"Our Technology creates two truly separate Operating Systems in one. These are separated at the hardware level, meaning each has its own resources, and one cannot access the other. This means that one Operating System can be dedicated to secure government or enterprise networks and the other left for normal use. Other types of "data separation" solutions, like containers and virtualization, which all help, still remain vulnerable to various malware attacks that can access all the data in the computer. To date, we've focused on tablets, smartphones and Chromebooks."
Mr. Hughes added that "WorkPlay Technology doesn't change the user experience, since each of the separate Operating Systems performs as its own typical computer. We offer our Technology to OEMs, chipmakers, and we are working with government agencies and major industry players to make it widely available. We have several product models that demonstrate its ease of use and functionality. The Technology was validated by NIST-certifying lab Cygnacom Solutions."
"I'll put it this way," Mr. Hughes remarked, "With WorkPlay Technology, Secretary Clinton would have been able to use one smartphone, separated between a "Work Zone" and "Play Zone." Then her official emails would have been protected by government security and stored on government servers, and she could have done as she pleased with her personal email. Furthermore, official emails could not have been breached from malware entering through the Play Zone. And our government and citizens would have one less political issue to deal with."

Mr. Hughes is the former President and COO of the defense giant, Lockheed Martin, and the former President of General Motors International Operations. He retired from General Motors as Executive Vice President in 2000. He has served on many major multinational boards, including ABB, Akzo Nobel, Alcatel-Lucent, British Telecom, and Deutsche Bank. He also served as a senior US diplomat in Kabul, leading the restructuring effort for the US Government in Afghanistan in 2004-05.
