Insight School of Michigan Opens Its Doors for the First Time to Students Enrolled for 2014-15 School Year
New online public charter school offers individualized learning approach for Michigan students
LANSING, Mich., Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Insight School of Michigan (ISMI), a tuition-free online public charter school for students in Michigan, will kick off the 2014-15 school year and its first year of operation on September 2, 2014. ISMI uses the award-winning K¹² curriculum to offer students in grades 6-12 a unique learning experience, and with support from Michigan-certified teachers, ISMI provides the individualized attention and learning tools students need to succeed – both in school and beyond.
ISMI focuses on helping students who are struggling in their education due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to, learning or behavioral issues, bullying, or a lack of effective alternatives at a brick-and-mortar school. The school also recognizes the importance of supporting students outside the classroom. The ISMI Social and Emotional Learning program, supported by the WhyTry curriculum—implemented through our homeroom model, addresses the real-life needs of every student, to give him or her academic, social, and emotional support needed to flourish in school and beyond. The school's instructional model and academic strategies concentrate on putting every student on a path to earning their high school diploma.
"We're excited to officially open our doors for the 2014-2015 school year and provide an opportunity to increase access to quality education for Michigan students and families," said Marcus Moore, Head of School at Insight School of Michigan. "Our goal is to help our students grow to where they need to be in their educational careers. Our individualized approach to education is based on decades of research about how students learn best, and we're committed to every child in our program."
ISMI teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms and phone. By working closely to help pace the curriculum to meet individual goals for advancement, teachers can adjust their lesson plans to the student, not the other way around. Students receive an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) that fits each child's unique strengths, weaknesses, learning styles and aptitudes. Each student's ILP maps out a multi-year personalized learning strategy through a collaborative team process between the student, parent, teachers, guidance counselor, and advisor.
In addition, students are invited to participate in numerous field trips, picnics and other social events throughout the year, making for a well-rounded experience.
