Industry Tastemaker Tomas Cookman Brings Alternative Latin Music to Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas on "La Hora Nacional"
New late-night playlist delivers eclectic mix of rock, hip-hop, reggae, funk, electronica
NEW YORK, July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas, the bilingual/bicultural brand for US Latinos, joins forces with industry vet Tomas Cookman to curate the new weekly music show "La Hora Nacional". Cookman, influential founder of the critically-acclaimed Nacional Records and the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference, will take over the network's late night slot to present a roster of alternative Latin talent from 'newcomers' like Bomba Estereo and Los Rakas to 'classics' like Mano Negra and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. "La Hora Nacional" airs every Saturday, starting July 16th at midnight (PST) / 3am (ET).
"La Hora Nacional will be our viewer's roadmap to the incredibly diverse sights and sounds of the alternative Latin music scene," said Marc Zimet, VP of Music and Talent for Tr3s and MTV Networks Latin America. "Tomas' influence gives the show the ultimate stamp of credibility and we look forward to delivering this exciting music to our viewers both on-air and on-line."
"While Latin alternative artists have been supported by MTV for years now, we are excited about a new focused program that will highlight rising stars as well as iconic acts across various genres," says Tomas Cookman, Founder of Nacional Records and the Latin Alternative Music Conference. "As the U.S. Latino demographic continues to evolve, it's essential for such prominent outlets to recognize the tremendous amount of groundbreaking talent which often do not receive as much attention from the mainstream Latin media."
