CHARLESTON, S.C., July 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Gotcha, a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) company focused on sustainable micro-transportation, today announced it is now the first shared mobility company in the U.S. to provide three customizable products: dockless bike share, 100%-electric ride share vehicles, and electric scooters. The company has expanded its footprint and offerings over the past decade and has built its integrated portfolio from the ground-up.
This announcement comes on the heels of Gotcha's rapid expansion and growth with university and city partners across the country. The company currently has more than 30 systems in place across the U.S., with plans to add 10 new cities and universities to its roster in the next six months and expand five systems to include scooters. In total, Gotcha provides more than 1 million rides a year and reaches 1.3 million unique customers.
"Transportation is an ongoing issue for every school in the country, which is why it's imperative to have a partner like Gotcha offering multiple products on one platform," said Don Andrae, director of parking and transportation at Auburn University. "They are committed to creating products that directly benefit our campus and we're excited to see the growing options. Gotcha's focus is on strategic, well-planned implementation, backed by a customer service-oriented team."
Since December of 2016, Gotcha has partnered with MSouth Equity Partners – a $2B private equity fund based in Atlanta – to support Gotcha's growing footprint and mobility service offerings. The firm has also invested more capital in Gotcha, underscoring its commitment to the mobility company as it becomes the country's first to offer three sustainable products.
"There's no doubt consumers are looking for smarter, more efficient transportation solutions – particularly those that leverage existing infrastructures and are focused on sustainability," said Barry L. Boniface, Partner, MSouth Equity Partners. "Between traditional car manufacturers like Daimler and BMW planning to provide car-sharing services, and ride share companies like Uber and Lyft acquiring bike share companies, there's no sign of a slow-down in innovation when it comes to tackling transportation problems. We've invested in Gotcha because we believe in their ability to execute on the mission of sustainably solving transportation problems for universities and cities across the U.S."
U.S. bike share alone has seen brisk growth with 35 million trips taken in 2017, 25% more than in 2016. Since 2010, there has been a total of 123 million trips nationally.1 Ride share systems – and most recently scooter share systems – have gained in popularity and are now becoming an integral part of last-mile transportation across the U.S.
"There are several mobility operators entering the U.S. market without a clear strategy or established partnerships, which is creating chaotic and potentially dangerous scenarios for many cities and schools," said Sean Flood, CEO of Gotcha. "While there's a growing need for smart and sustainable transportation options, we believe it should be an absolute priority to make sure these systems are properly implemented so citizens, students, businesses, and governments all benefit in the long run. It has to be a win-win for everyone in order to be successful. We also believe that by offering a complementary set of last-mile transportation products from a single source, we're able to tackle the unique challenges facing each university and city while also providing them with rich data and analytics to make better-informed decisions for their future transportation needs."
Gotcha also now offers its partners the option to integrate their existing transit technology or app into the Gotcha app, which provides a seamless mobile connection between ride share, bike share, and now scooter share systems.
