Independent Research Firm Names Rally Software a Leader in Both ALM and PPM
Dec 2012 Analyst Report States "Rally shines for managing Agile projects" - names Rally a Leader for ALM and Below-the-Line PPM
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Rally® is named a Leader in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Below-the-Line Project/Program Portfolio Management (PPM) in two separate Forrester Wave Reports. Forrester Waves, published by independent research firm Forrester Research, Inc., provide Forrester's clear, unambiguous evaluation of the vendors and products in a particular market based on its comprehensive methodology.
In Forrester's 68-criteria evaluation of PPM vendors, "The Forrester Wave™: Project/Program Portfolio Management, Q4 2012," Forrester identifies, analyzes and scores its list of the 10 most significant PPM vendors. Rally is named a Leader in Below-the-line Project/Program Portfolio Management for its support of enterprises seeking immediate help with planning, execution, and work management. The December 2012 report states, "Rally's PPM solution connects with its ALM solution to provide a comprehensive planning and tracking project management solution for Agile teams - and those transitioning to Agile."
In its 116-criteria evaluation of ALM vendors, Forrester identifies and evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of its list of the nine most significant ALM providers. The October 2012 report, "The Forrester Wave™: Application Life-Cycle Management, Q4 2012," names Rally a Leader and states, "Rally's leadership rests with its breadth and depth of capabilities for Agile teams, combined with a strong and focused corporate strategy."
"Each Forrester Wave includes a detailed questionnaire, a thorough product demo and strategy briefing, and customer reference interviews to evaluate vendors' ALM and PPM strategy and current offering. Rally is named a Leader in both ALM and Below-the-Line PPM markets," said Tim Miller, Rally's CEO. "Forrester's exhaustive evaluation process reviews the players in the ALM and PPM markets so that Application Development and Portfolio Management professionals can make well-informed decisions without spending months conducting their own research."
Both Forrester Waves discuss Agile and Lean support as an element involved in evaluating vendors' strategy and current offering in meeting the needs of Project/Program Portfolio Management and Application Life-Cycle Management professionals. "The Forrester Wave™: Project/Program Portfolio Management, Q4 2012" states "From a product strategy perspective, we looked at how vendors plan to support greater Lean and Agile demands...as part of portfolio planning and execution." And, "The Forrester Wave™: Application Life-Cycle Management, Q4 2012" states its evaluation treats "Agile and Lean as a critical test of ALM offerings."
"Application delivery professionals must become more nimble to survive. Big-bang projects that deliver working software on 18- to 24-month project cycles make it impossible for business leaders to pivot when business conditions change quarterly, monthly, and even daily due to new threats, competitors, and opportunities. Agile development loomed as an answer because it focuses on delivering the most critically important features—a 'minimum viable product' (MVP) in the Agile lexicon—as incremental bits of functioning software much sooner than conventional methods. Through more incremental, iterative delivery, when business conditions change, the impact is limited to the current volume of work in progress," states "The Forrester Wave™: Project/Program Portfolio Management, Q4 2012."
"Rally Software continues its leadership in Agile/Lean," states "The Forrester Wave™: Application Life-Cycle Management, Q4 2012." Earlier in the report it states that Rally "...built its ALM strategy around Agile support." In addition, "The Forrester Wave™: Project/Program Portfolio Management, Q4 2012" says, "...Rally shines for managing Agile projects," and "Rally's new project portfolio management solution is the most classically Agile project management tool in the evaluation."
