iNACOL Webinar Explores the Importance of Social Emotional Learning in Increasing ELL Success in Blended and Online Learning Environments
WASHINGTON, March 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET, the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) is hosting a Teacher Talk webinar to examine how to develop social emotional learning and increase success for English Language Learners (ELL) through blended and online learning environments. Presenter Mawi Asgedom is an Ethiopian refugee and former ELL who graduated from Harvard, authored eight leadership books used in classrooms worldwide and frequently speaks at education conferences.
There is a massive and persistent ELL achievement gap in the United States. Traditional ELL education approaches have focused on language acquisition and content knowledge, yet ELL students have unique social emotional needs. This webinar will examine social emotional skills and the importance for ELL programs using blended and online learning to close the graduation, learning and social gaps for ELL students.
- Explore research-based social emotional learning skills, such as grit and growth mindset, specifically as they relate to ELL students.
- Learn best practices for providing ELL students with the core social emotional skills necessary to improve achievement, completion rates and learning outcomes.
Susan Patrick, President and CEO of iNACOL, said, "Empowered by personalizing instruction and focusing on the development of social and emotional skills, as well as content knowledge and language proficiency, teachers support and empower ELL students in culturally responsive ways using online and blended learning. Educators are individualizing instruction based on the unique needs and strengths of ELL students, creating a more equitable, inclusive and transparent system in which all students succeed."
This webinar is free to attend—participants are invited to register here for final details and login information.
