NEW YORK, Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In collaboration with with Variety and Wieden+Kennedy, UM was awarded the 2015 Online Marketing Media & Advertising (OMMA) Award for Best Homepage Takeover. Creative teams from Variety, UM and Wieden+Kennedy designed a unique homepage merging media and editorial for the first time in a never before seen visual experience through a customized homepage.
Variety worked with SCE's media agency, UM, and advertising agency, Wieden + Kennedy, to search through over 100 years of Variety archives. 50 of the most seminal news stories from TV, film, music and entertainment from the 1960s to the present were paired with real product announcements from the same era. Re-packaged with modern day assets such as video clips, photo galleries, etc., a provocative, visual story about the history of Sony's groundbreaking products and how they aligned with the biggest entertainment news was created for online visitors to experience.
Called "The History of Innovation" Takeover, the homepage was equipped with a timeline scroll bar for users to toggle back and forth throughout the decades seeing breaking news paired with the Sony products and brand advertising from each era. For example, the headline of "'Titanic' Sails to All-Time Box Office Records' was paired with the ad campaign "Introducing The Wega Series High-Definition Television With Digital Reality Creation Technology."
"We're proud to be a part of this unique and innovative digital campaign with Sony Consumer Electronics," said Variety.com Editor Stuart Oldham. "Variety.com is always looking for new partners and working with the brilliant minds at Wieden+Kennedy and UM was truly a pleasure."
