In Another Key Step Toward a Scalable Solution to the STEM Teacher Shortage: The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning Introduces an Opportunity for all Certified New Jersey Teachers in Every Subject Area to Efficiently Earn Their Endorsement to Teach K-12 Mathematics or Middle School Mathematics
TRENTON, N.J., March 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning (NJCTL), America's #1 producer of physics teachers and a leading producer of chemistry teachers, today announced a new program to enable certified New Jersey teachers, in any subject area, to earn an endorsement to teach K-12 Mathematics or Middle School Mathematics.
NJCTL's online courses for teachers provide all the required instruction in both mathematics content and teaching methods, and can be completed at any time and in any location to accommodate working teachers' schedules. The mathematics endorsement candidates' coached field experience courses can then be completed in their current schools.
NJCTL's Executive Director, Dr. Robert (Bob) Goodman explained, "The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) founded our organization to empower teachers to lead the transformation of schools. We work hard to provide teachers with a full curriculum of free, editable K-12 course materials for science and mathematics; as well as the opportunity to broaden their skills and effectively teach STEM subjects, regardless of their academic backgrounds." He added, "this leverages our current talent pool of capable teachers and provides a simple, scalable solution to our current STEM teacher shortage. We are very pleased to add a NJ endorsement program in mathematics to our offerings."
The endorsement programs can be completed by qualified current NJ teachers in as little as 12 to 15 months. Upon successfully completing five to seven online courses for teachers, two field experience courses, and passing the corresponding Mathematics Content Knowledge Praxis, candidates can apply to the New Jersey Department of Education for an endorsement to teach Middle School Mathematics or K-12 Mathematics.
NJEA members will receive a discount of 20% for all online courses for teachers.
