NEW YORK, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- From film shorts to espresso shots, illy caffè, the cup with a cult following returns to Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, starting on April 13th , and includes 77 world premiere screenings and many special events over 12 days.
Just like cult films, known for their dedicated, passionate fanbase, illy is the cup with a cult following especially when it comes to the illy Art Collection, a large body of work consisting of coffee cups produced since 1992. To date, more than 70 contemporary artists have contributed to the collection from Michelangelo Pistoletto to Marina Abramović to Francis Ford Coppola.
Illy caffè, the official coffee of the film fest, is inspiring film fans at a number of venues including the Tribeca Festival Hub at Spring Studios where film, art, tech and performance come together. This year, the Hub hosts several screenings and events including the Tribeca Talks: Daring Women Summit Powered by the Li.st and Virtual Arcade, presented by AT&T, in addition to an illy coffee bar, located at the 6th floor serving espresso shots, mini caffè lattes and illy bottled coffee for on-the-go. In addition, ticketed guests visiting the illy coffee bar can test their skills with the "illy cup clutch" arcade experience and retrieve illy Art Collection cups.
On Saturday, April 23rd, The Tribeca Film Festival Shorts Saturday screenings is featuring illy caffè at Bow Tie Cinemas. Those fans attending the first session, New York Then, a series of short films including Mulberry, a cinematic portrait of Little Italy from Director Paul Stone, will be treated to illy espresso in addition to savory and sweet bites from Grandaisy café including their roman style flat bread, a favorite for those living and working in the Tribeca neighborhood.
Illy is also celebrating the film Perfect Strangers, part of the International Narrative Competition. The film by Italian director, Paolo Genovese brings an impressive cast including Alba Rorhwacher and Marco Giallini. The film portraits a dinner party where seven friends decide to play a dangerous game. Each attendee places their cell phone on the table and agrees to make all texts and calls public in an attempt to prove that they have nothing to hide. What at first seems like a playful distraction between friends quickly turns into something much more. With a touch of irony given the film's narrative, each guest attending the premier will receive a can of illy espresso and a box of the new illy k-cups single serve coffee with the idea of conveying the message that coffee inspires socializing, friendship and stimulating conversation.
Illy will also participate in the Tribeca On Location, on Saturday, April 23rd where Tribeca is transformed into a day of gaming, snacking, and having fun. Those attending will be treated to illy bottle coffee, an authentic espresso iced coffee.
