PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Puntacana Resort & Club announced that it will begin a complete renovation of its ultra-luxury Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club, beginning in July 2017. Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club was founded by the Rainieri family in 2005 and is the only AAA 5 Diamond hotel in the Dominican Republic. It is the only hotel designed by Oscar de la Renta, who was proud to call Punta Cana home for the last 20 years of his celebrated life.
For this renovation, acclaimed designer Markham Roberts and Haydée Kuret de Rainieri will evolve the signature hospitality experience first imagined by Mr. de la Renta.
"Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club has long been a source of pride for the Dominican Republic. It is the perfect expression of Oscar de la Renta's style and sensibility," said Haydée Rainieri, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at Grupo Puntacana. "Markham Roberts is the ideal designer to refresh Tortuga Bay, by carrying forward Oscar de la Renta's vision."
Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club features thirteen secluded villas. The renovation will refresh those suites with an updated design and new technology that has been curated to enhance the guest experience. The hotel will also incorporate a renewed aesthetic as well as additional seating, a new kitchen, and a new bakery for its Four Diamond Award-winning Bamboo Restaurant. In addition, Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club will add a new wine cellar offering 600 bottles of fine wine, a humidor featuring a wide selection of cigars, a renovated bar, and state-of-the-art-fitness equipment for the hotel's private gym. The property is also adding a new lounge to accommodate early arrivals and departures, allowing guests to enjoy the resort's seclusion and service from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave for the airport.
"The chance to work closely with Haydée Rainieri and Mrs. de la Renta is a privilege," said Markham Roberts. "Oscar de la Renta holds a special place in the history of the Dominican Republic, and his expression of Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club is the reason why it is such an iconic hotel. We are all thrilled at the opportunity to bring Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club to the next level of luxury and comfort."
Called "a master of timeless American style" by Vogue, Markham Roberts has earned a reputation as one of the top decorators of his generation. He and his work have been featured in Architectural Digest, Domino, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, House & Garden, Southern Accents, Town & Country, Veranda, and The New York Times. Markham has been named to the AD100, Architectural Digest's prestigious list of the top 100 interior designers and architects in the world.
About Puntacana Resort & Club
The development of Puntacana Resort & Club dates back to 1969 when Dominican businessman and hotelier Frank R. Rainieri and Theodore W. Kheel, the prominent New York attorney and labor mediator, created a partnership to construct a resort and real estate community that respects the natural habitat of Punta Cana while offering a world-class vacation experience. Maintaining a dedication to sustainable tourism, Puntacana Resort & Club has since grown to encompass over 26 square miles and now includes Tortuga Bay; Six Senses Spa; the Grupo Puntacana Foundation; four residential communities (Corales, Serena, Hacienda, Marina and Arrecife); a full-service marina; nine restaurants; a shopping village; two 18-hole golf courses; and Punta Cana International Airport, a modern facility that incorporates innovative and eco-friendly design. In 1997, Julio Iglesias and Oscar de la Renta joined the Group as co-investors and made PUNTACANA Resort & Club their home. Currently, Punta Cana is the most highly visited Caribbean destination and is easily accessible from all over the globe.
