WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, Director of Human Resources Ventris Gibson, and District Chief Financial Officer Jeff DeWitt will join ICMA-RC President and CEO Bob Schultze to cut the ribbon at the Oct. 30 grand opening of ICMA-RC's new walk-in Retirement Service Center for the District's approximately 40,000 employees. The Center, located at 77 K Street, N.E., will serve the city's active and retired public sector employees who participate in its 457(b) Deferred Compensation and 401(a) Defined Contribution Plans.
Washington, D.C. selected ICMA-RC to be the exclusive provider of recordkeeping services for its 457(b) Deferred Compensation and 401(a) Defined Contribution Plans this past spring and the transition successfully occurred on schedule on Sept. 18, 2015. The grand opening of the new Service Center will launch a week-long open house Oct. 30 to Nov. 6, and will feature educational presentations and one-on-one meetings where plan participants can consult with ICMA-RC Retirement Plans Specialists.
"The Retirement Service Center location is near a number of District offices in the area of North Capitol Street and First Street, N.E. which will make it more convenient for plan participants to obtain valuable retirement services, said John Henry, Washington, D.C. Associate Treasurer of Asset Management. "Choosing a retirement plan provider headquartered in Washington, D.C. means ICMA-RC is able to deliver resources to best meet the needs of District employees who serve this community every day."
District employees who visit the new Service Center will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding about their retirement plans, sources of retirement income, and different Social Security claiming strategies. Retirement plan participants can meet with local ICMA-RC representatives to ensure they are contributing enough to their retirement plan, understand proper asset allocation, and learn if they are on track to build a secure retirement.
ICMA-RC President and CEO Bob Schultze said, "ICMA-RC is honored to have the opportunity to serve the District of Columbia and help its employees build retirement security. We expect thousands of District employees to visit the Retirement Service Center and we are proud to offer individualized service that complements our comprehensive offering of award-winning resources and services to help them meet their retirement goals."
