HOUSTON, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The new Campus For All Animals, which officially opened late October, gives the Houston SPCA the ability to care for the broadest range of animal species, types of abuse and injury, and magnitude of large-scale, multiple-animal cases – all in one location. The Houston SPCA cares for more than 40,000 animals each year and is known for their lifesaving work featured on the long running TV series Animal Cops: Houston on Animal Planet. Around The Campus
The new 12-acre campus offers inviting spaces for homeless companion animals seeking a second chance in life while offering visitors a more engaging pet adoption experience. The Campus For All Animals is a destination for animal lovers and an ideal place to host regional and national conferences, trainings and educational programs.
- Ann Slemons Young Adoption Center was designed to showcase companion animals including cats, dogs, puppies, kittens and small mammals such as guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits. The 28,000 square-foot adoption center features various suites that are 50% larger than the former adoption center and can accommodate multiple animals, reducing stress for bonded pets. The Dog and Puppy Suites are spacious with an open concept, while the Kitten Clubhouse encourages cats and kittens to climb within several cat condos or comfortable suites. Amenities also include soothing classical music, high ceilings with natural light and spacious 'get acquainted' rooms. The adjacent play yards just outside the Large Dog Suites provide authentic interaction as well as a neutral place for dog owners to introduce a potential new pet to their family.
- Annie White Graham Wildlife Center is one of the largest wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centers in the nation. This 9,000-square foot center cares for over 11,000 wild animals representing more than 362 different species in any given year. There is designated space for 150 aquariums, 10 turtle sinks, and caging for 12 reptiles; a large room for squirrels and opossums as well as flight cages for fledglings. The new outdoor flight complex is nearly 7,000 square feet with 20 bird enclosures including a large flight cage for rehabilitating large raptors like bald eagles, hawks and owls.
- Carruth Education Center serves as a 14,000-square foot multi-purpose building that can be divided into three separate rooms, each with multi-media capabilities and includes a catering kitchen. The education center is home to Critter Camp, seasonal educational camps for students and is also available for conferences, training programs and special events.
- Rescue Arena will be used for exercising and rehabilitating Houston SPCA rescue horses. The 300-stadium seating space will also be available for special events and training programs. In the event of a natural disaster, the 23,000-square foot arena will also be utilized as a triage area and secondary rescue and reunite center.
- Dr. Amy Alexander Equine Care Center is a safe haven for horses and farm animals rescued by the Houston SPCA from animal cruelty, abuse and neglect. The 25-stall equine care center will also be used to prepare horses and farm animals for adoption.
- Fast Fred and Cemo Ranger Peabody Dog Parks is where visitors can not only adopt a new family member at the Campus For All Animals, but enjoy community events with their own dogs and connect with other canine lovers at the new on-site, members-only dog parks.
- Harper Donor Courtyard The donor courtyard can be used for campus visitors looking for a quiet place for reflection as well as small outdoor gatherings and celebrations. It features a one-of-a-kind sculptural backdrop crafted from weathering steel that displays the many animals touched by the Houston SPCA.
The Houston SPCA will more than double their campus footprint after the completion of Phase II which will include the transformation of the original shelter building into a state-of-the-art Animal Medical Center scheduled to open Fall 2019.
The Houston SPCA is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) animal protection organization that operates solely on donations and has served the community since 1924.
