SAN FRANCISCO, April 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HotelTonight, the leading mobile app for last-minute hotel bookings, has announced a partnership with Major League Baseball's (MLB) New York Yankees. In time for the 2017 Yankees season, the deal is among the first major U.S. sports sponsorship for HotelTonight, which recently announced a partnership with the English Premier League's Chelsea Football Club.
The season-long, category exclusive partnership will include in-Stadium signage and branding, as well as digital and social campaigns and promotions.
"Baseball fans and specifically Yankees fans are among the most loyal and well-traveled in sports, so we're hopeful HotelTonight's selection of great hotels and last-minute deals will enhance their fan experience wherever they are," said HotelTonight's Chief Marketing Officer Ray Elias. "We are so honored to partner with the Yankees and mark new heights for the last-minute travel category."
"Fans come to Yankees games from all corners of the globe, so it makes perfect sense to align with HotelTonight," said Bryan Calka, New York Yankees Vice President Partnerships. "The HotelTonight app will allow our fans the flexibility to secure hotel reservations while enjoying a Yankees game."
HotelTonight recently expanded its proprietary GeoRates to attendees at Yankee Stadium with location-based, extra-discounted hotel deals bookable from their smart phones during and after games. The GeoRates available will allow fans to book hotels around Yankee Stadium and greater New York City area. The Yankees have the largest fan base of any professional sports team in the United States, with more than 30 million fans nationwide.
Across the board, hotel bookings are becoming increasingly last-minute: nearly 50% of U.S. domestic hotel bookings are made within three days of arrival, according to Sojern, the world's leading performance marketing platform for travel brands. Even home games involve some travel for most Yankees fans: nearly 80% of the 30 million Yankees fans nationwide live outside the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut), and 57% of Yankees' attendees based in the Tri-State area reside outside of New York City. With HotelTonight, fans can plan to attend the game with the confidence of knowing they can choose to make a night out of it by booking a great hotel, even at a moment's notice.
