Homes For Our Troops to Host Veteran Service Organization/Nonprofit Symposium July 11
TAUNTON, Mass., June 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The national nonprofit, Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), will host a Veteran Service Organization (VSO) Symposium on Tuesday, July 11 in Taunton, Massachusetts. The event will serve as an open forum for VSO professionals to discuss and exchange pertinent information, programming, and resources for Veterans and their caregivers, while providing a platform to apply lessons learned and best practices across the Veteran service community. Topics of interest include mental and physical wellness programs for Veterans, caregiver support, VA resources, and nonprofit fiscal management.
The event is free and open to all nonprofits, government/VA offices, and other businesses looking to strengthen their ties to the Veteran community.
Leaders from several of the country's top performing Veteran organizations including
Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), DAV, Elizabeth Dole Foundation Hidden Heroes campaign, and Home Base, are slated among the event's speaker lineup. Army Veteran and motivational speaker, Earl Granville, will deliver the keynote address. Members from CVS Health will share information about its expanded MinuteClinic services piloted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Additionally, representatives from Charity Navigator will be on hand to explain the importance of charity ratings in the giving community, and offer advice on how Veteran nonprofits can improve their fiscal transparency and ratings assessment. Francisco A. Ureña, Secretary of Veterans' Services (Mass.) will lead a discussion on Challenges and Best Practices in the VSO Sector.
"With over 40,000 Veteran related charities operating nationwide, we in the nonprofit sector owe it to the brave men and women who have served our country to work smarter, together, and provide our Veterans with the very best of services and programs," says Bill Ivey, HFOT's Executive Director. "Cross talking and collaborating with other like-minded organizations will allow us to identify gaps or overlaps in services, and in doing so, optimize our collective support for Veterans."
The Symposium will also feature a Challenges and Best Practices forum session where leaders in the Veteran care continuum can solicit guidance and feedback from other VSO colleagues.
