Himfr Analyzes China's Cotton Demand
BEIJING, May 31 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Himfr.com, one of China's leading B2B search platforms with more than 30 B2B industry websites to its name, analyzes China's cotton demand.
Himfr reports that the demand for cotton this year is expected to rise 2.8%, but world cotton stocks are falling. Last week, China's cotton futures reached a record high; cotton prices rose more than 7% in the last two weeks, while cotton shortages are expected throughout the year.
Himfr's analysis shows that that recent temperatures in the north areas of Xinjiang province have risen, which is favorable for cotton growth; in southern areas of Xinjiang, temperatures have declined, which is slightly unfavorable for the growth of cotton. The rainfall in the Yellow River Basin is also not conducive to the growth of cotton, which has caused the cotton growth situation to lag significantly behind previous years. It is expected that planted areas will remain the same as in 2009, and harvest will be delayed two weeks; the level of production will also be close to 2009. In the U.S., rainfall in the west has been low for cotton growth; in south-central areas rainfall is also normal, and flooding is reduced, which is beneficial for cotton growth; in the southeast rainfall has increased, and flood areas grown, which is not conducive to cotton growth. It is expected that U.S. cotton acreage will increase by 15%; growth progress is slightly behind the previous year's average level.
Furthermore, European consumers will also pay more as China and other Asian countries' cotton prices rice; to buy a new T shirt this summer will cost more money.
Himfr said that inventory shrinkage and severe weather such as heavy snow in Xinjiang has caused cotton (http://www.himfr.com/list-product-Agriculture-01000000-1.html ) supply to decrease; this situation might extend to September of this year.
With the continued rapid rise in cotton prices, the cost of textile enterprises in China has significantly increased. As cotton prices continue rising, businessmen are not cutting costs, so consumers will have to spend more money.
