Healthcare Businesswomen's Association: Year of the Volunteer in Action
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Aug. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association is the premier catalyst for the leadership development of women in healthcare worldwide. HBA success is fueled by the collective and individual commitment of its volunteers.
HBA 2011 president Deborah Coogan Seltzer, life sciences practice member at Spencer Stuart, dedicated her presidential year to HBA volunteers. The Year of the Volunteer has been focused on providing volunteer members with leadership development opportunities that can be leveraged for professional advantage. "Without members who actively engage as volunteers we would be wholly incapable of delivering on our mission and promises to our members and corporate partners," said Deborah. "My goal is to ensure they are getting something valuable in return that propels their career."
The power of volunteers has been illustrated this year as HBA volunteer Liz Kay, VP of account strategy and marketing at Cramer and the director of business development on the HBA board gathered a team of volunteers to create a new offering Leadership in Practice: A Learning and Coaching Continuum.
Liz assembled a team of volunteers with expertise where she needed it most. She needed a team of professional leadership coaches so she called upon Stephanie McCray, executive coach and consultant and president and founder of Executive Material; Gerrie Dresser, PCC, executive and personal brand coach and president of Success Associates; and Monica J. Weil, principal of Lifeblood Consulting Group Inc., who volunteered their time and professional expertise to create this new offering for the HBA.
"The HBA adds professional value to members by offering them experiential leadership opportunities," says Laurie Cooke, RPh, CAE, CEO of the HBA. "The HBA professional staff work hand-in-hand with the volunteers to create so much more than our staff could alone. We are so fortunate to have dedicated professionals offer their professional expertise to create programs that advance the leadership of women in healthcare worldwide."
Leadership in Practice represents a bold step into virtual programming for the HBA. This member-only program is delivered via an online platform. For more information visit our webpage: Leadership in Practice: A Learning and Coaching Continuum.
