Family Golf Month promotes golf as a fun, family recreational activity by providing structured, yet casual, opportunities for families to learn the game of golf and spend uninterrupted time together. Some of the programs being offered include Get Golf Ready for Families, Take Your Daughter to the Course Week, Kids Play Free programs, and PGA Family Courses.
"Getting the family together for a round of golf, whether it's nine or 18 holes, is a great outdoor activity that gives parents the opportunity to have uninterrupted conversations and quality time with their children," said PGA of America President Ted Bishop. "It's also a great way for the entire family to enjoy golf's health and wellness benefits while creating memories for a lifetime."
The PGA of America continues to team with the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) to host Take Your Daughter to the Course Week, July 8-14, a program designed to promote overall participation in golf, especially among youth and their families. Participating facilities will offer free green fees to youth accompanied by a paying adult, with many facilities also offering a free clinic for youngsters.
"Continuing the positive growth of female participation in golf is a key initiative within the golf community," said Mike Hughes, chief executive officer of the NGCOA. "Take Your Daughter to the Course Week is a tremendous program from course owners allowing families to have a fun afternoon on the course and making golf a part of their lives."
Many of the Family Golf Month programs offered are free, but those with a cost are still affordable when compared to other summer activities. A family golf program for four can be comparable to an afternoon at the movies and considerably less expensive than a trip to an amusement park. A golf outing offers the benefit of exercise as well as family togetherness, making it the perfect 'staycation' option for families.
